Greetings folks, here is my problem:

After a power outage whilst burning a CD, my PCRW4816 is not recognised by my machine anymore. It seems that the drive's firmware somehow got corrupted. Booting into the comp's BIOS confirmed this assumption: the bios displays garbage as the drive's ID (a solid snowy line)

I tried to repair by using the FlashTool downloaded from the manufacturer's web site but that did not work: FlashTool refused to flash since it does not recognise the drive as a Philips drive (due to the firmware being corrupted, i gather)

Is there a way to force FlashTool to upgrade? Or is there an alternative software which would allow me to load the replacement firmware?

Thanks in advance for your help

PS: Returning the drive to the manufacturer is not an option since my warranty has expired

Same problem here. I have downloaded the firmware, but none of the three applications wants to work.
Nobody knows a way to force update?

Thanks in advance

Although this thread is from a while ago, I can give you the following info.

At the back of the CD burner there is a Jumper 'For factory Use'. Remove that jumper and use the flash tool to update your burner.
If Flashing is succesful, replace the Jumper again and reboot the system.

Greetings,
Peter
