Damn crossg........... If I didn't know better I'd say that was one of my disc's with that funky spike at around 1.7g. Sure does look familiar though. Don't start going south on us now.

Here's my attempt. First off, it's not a FULL disc (4.297GB)...but the time is great, the quality is so-so. Does it look like WOPC kicked in when the PIFs went up? The jitter sure went up in that hight PIF region! Why do ALL BenQs have that dip around 1.0GB? I'll tell you what, I can't get the same quality with WOPC off that others can...

Hey insane........ I wouldn't complain about the 97%. Thats all I've been able to pul off so far too. But it certainly does look like WOPC is trying to kick in around 2.4 g mark. Very Odd.

Well just did some testing with the 1640 and Solid burn /Overspeed enabled. Tried two burns with YUDEN000 T02 @16x WOPC Disabled/Force spin up. Doesn't work the drive spins down before writing to disc. Burned two discs just to be sure. So just an FYI if you want to burn TYT02 for this thread turn off Overspeed and use TYT03 write strat. guess the same goes for other 8x rated media. Maybe this will save some wasted discs.
@zevia. please don't add these to your list as I posted them for info only.

@ crossg:

Wow!! 5:18 16x burn ... got NOS? Turn that Nitro on and burn, baby, burn ... .

( gee, those PIF spikes 'glitch' in the last 1.8 GB of the scan sure is annoying. I hope they correct that soon, so we can really see how the 1640 burns ). I'm really curious to see how 'clean' that last section of the disc looks, especially considering the first 2.5 GB's of the burn have superb PIF counts for a 16x burn. Maybe they finally 'got it' for true 16x burning on 16x rated media. Hopefully, we'll find out soon.

I wonder how that discs looks like scanned in your 1620?

Sweet burn crossg.
Got permission from my gf (when on vacation) to buy me a new drive...

Back on topic.
Not that much changed since I got my 1620 drive late last year, although BenQ has been quite good on releasing "new" firmwares.
In this and next post I'll put up two burns, first one on latest firmware and second when on firmware my drive came with.
Make your own conclusions.

MID: YUDEN000-T02
Brand: Fuji branded (TG001158)
Type: DVD+R 8x rated
Burned with: Nero, Create Data Disc (v.4.0)
Burned at: 16x speed
Burntime: 5:20
Booktype: DVD-ROM
Firmware: B7W9 No_WOPC (W/Quikee's WOPC tool)
Note. Scanned when on B7P9 firmware for consistensy reason.

Hey zev........ Sorry Buddy but I have another one for you. The speed isn't the best but the max and the totals are pretty good. Pretty odd though, these MCC004's do a better job on the speed test than my best TY's. 16X burn with forced speed up & WOPC off. Got hosed at the very end out of a better QS.

Just barely made it with this one. But again I got jipped at the end. Looks like this batch has a little ending problem. I'll try one more from the bottom of the spindle.

Verbatim branded MCC 03RG20 DVD-R 16x
BenQ DW1620 B7W9
Nero Create Data Disc @16x.
Burn Time 5:34 (I didn't use force spin up. Sorry, I skipped the burn capture but you can see the white line.)

These MCC03RG20 discs are pretty amazing. Highest PIE imaginable (I broke the million mark! I know it's way over the criteria here.) but still under 1000 PIF. I saw GoRm already reported something similar for this animal.

Most discs are getting worse at the end but every disc of my batch marks its best quality at the edge.
