| Hi Basically that's correct. If you had a perfect running 1640 & asked if you needed to upgrade. I'd say why rush, give it a f/w upgrade or two. If your saying you need a new drive & it's between the 1640 or 1650. Then the 1650 is the better buy for the future. |

| Hi There have been one or two duff drives, but when you consider this is probably the best selling drives at present. I don't think that percentage wise it's anything to worry about. I fully recommend the 1650, unless you require LightScribe. In which the 1655 is the one. |

| Hi, I have a question. If the DVDR1660 and the BenQ DW1650 are the same (technically), is there any way to "convert" a DVDR1660 into a BenQ DW1650? Like Firmware Update or something like that. Did anyone tried this out? Thanks in Advance. |

| WoW, the write quality is good on this drive, I guess the firmware team for philip is doing a great job. Thanks Jan for in depth review.
