Can't get Ridata G04 discs to read on Benq 8x burner
| BenQ / Philips Writer Discuss, Can't get Ridata G04 discs to read on Benq 8x burner at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; OK, I know everyone is gonna ask if I have the 800, 800a, or 830. I don't know. I got this drive from officemax today for free after rebates. It's Kypermedia rebadged as Benq. It came flashed with B2F7. I flashed it to B2L7. Still wouldn't read Ridata G04 DVD+R. |

It came flashed with B2F7. I flashed it to B2L7. Still wouldn't read Ridata G04 DVD+R. My rebadged Optorite 4x plays them fine and burns them fine. I cannot get any of my G04s to read in the Benq. I've read thread after thread but I'm not understand this stuff. I'm ridiculously confused. Also, no sites seem to list if the G04s are readable on the Benq drive which I have. Please help!
Thanks.

Nevermind. Turns out that the drive I got ONLY READS AND WRITES to DVD+R. I was using a DVD-R to try it. Soon as I popped a DVD+R in it it worked fine. Anyone know if this drive can be flashed to dual format? That would be so helpful for me. I mean, it's not bad that I have a DVD+R drive now cuz I have 100 DVD+R blanks... but can this be made a dual format drive? -

Nevermind. Turns out the first two discs off my G03 spindle were crappy. The Benq reader didn't like them. I'm burning a DVD+R on the BENQ right now without a problem.
Thanks to all that helped or even read. Sorry to be a n00b, everyone does it at some point

I google your firmware version and it says it should be a DW800A. You should be able to see what the model number is in your device manager. Also I think you can spend $10 and get a dual firmware (B3x7 series, didn't know if there are actual difference in DW800) look at the support page on the link below. there are some they also used a hacked firmware to upgrade DW800 to DW822A, so maybe you should wait to see what others respond to your situation.

Purchase Quicken deluxe for $59.99. Get the dvd player for $100.00Quote:Originally Posted by VanderlowI'd like to know how you got it for free after rebates.
- $25 instant rebate
- $25 coupon for that player
- $25 mail in rebate
- $25 for ANOTHER mail in rebate.
All I paid was tax on $100. Basically free.

But I hate spending money on stuff like this. grrrrrr
