Wow, very nice tool! Thanks.

Has anyone here tried the BenQ 1620 B7W9 -> Philips 1640P P3.6 flash? I'm curious what advantage we would have by doing this

I have tried P3.6 -> B7W9 as I have Philips 1640P drive. P3.6 is nothing special so I don't think you will gain anything.. but you can try ofcourse. =)

Hi
Yes it does work flashing to a BenQ 1640 from Sony DRU 810, but at the moment I don't believe you can flash back as Sony f/w not available as yet. I know of one person who has done this & they weren't bothered about flashing back.

Hi
You probably need winflash + .cvt file. If you want to PM me your email address I can send them to you.

Quikee, just a suggestion. Could you include the release date for the tools in your sig?

Q.

i am having the exact same problem. i crossflashed my hi-val external with BEGB and my burst rate went from 19MB/s to 12MB/s. maximum transfer rate is now 8x. without my original GSLB firmware to revert back to, i am afraid i hosed the thing!

in nero infotool, it shows the benq under the USB 2.0 controller with no info on DMA status. in device manager, i do not see a way to check DMA in the USB 2.0 controller.

can anybody help?

Quikee,
Thankyou for sharing your flash utility. I really appreciated the zip file from above, as it made it a lot easier for me, not having what I needed to unzip the .rar file.
My HI-VAL flashed to DW1640, and I feel fortunate to have one, as scarce as they are now.
This drive is such an improvement from the AOpen 1616 I've been using, I can see a visual difference, just viewing a dvd, let alone burning one.
You rock dude
I have tried the links to your website, but can't seem to connect. Can anyone give me directions to get there?

nevermind, i guess i had to turn off the enclosure itself for the DMA to kick in. a restart alone didnt do it.

Hi
When you flash an external drive, a box should appear after completion telling you to restart pc. But should also mention if using USB/FW to disconnect caddy as well.

*SONY DRU-810A to BENQ DVD DD DW1640: successful
*back to DRU-810A: successful.
*BenQ firmware: stock BSMB from BenQ site (IIRC).
*Sony firmware: stock 1.0d from Sony Storage Support site

See signature for details of hardware arrangement (At a glance: LiteOn 1693S master, CS jumper; DRU-810A slave, CS jumper; Intel 915G north + Intel 82801FB/FBM south; Windows XP SP2 with ASPI versaion 4.71), so if you want to go back to the stock Sony firmware update, it is possible with this great tool.
