BenQ / Philips Writer Discuss, BENQ Philips SDVD8441 not burning CDRs at CD and DVD Writers forum; Hi guys and girls, I have a new BenQ S61 with the BENQ Philips SDVD8441 DVD burner. It has no problems burning DVD-Rs, or CD-RWs, but CD-Rs always fail. I have tried Taiyo Yuden, TDK and Sony CDRs and even dropped the speed right back, but they all fail on

Hi guys and girls,

I have a new BenQ S61 with the BENQ Philips SDVD8441 DVD burner.

It has no problems burning DVD-Rs, or CD-RWs, but CD-Rs always fail.

I have tried Taiyo Yuden, TDK and Sony CDRs and even dropped the speed right back, but they all fail on the burn, but appear ok on the simulation.

I have tried using Nero 6 and also Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.

Any suggestions?

Nothing wrong with the media you're using.

A log file from a failed burn in Nero would be useful to see, that'll tell us a lot.

it says that the lead-in failed.

Also regularly get the message that the Burner is busy too.

Please help.

You could try using Burrrn (www.burrrn.net) as it's very good at burning Audio CDs. That's all it does actually and it has been known to succeed where Nero has failed.

Strange enough, that Nero does not stop processing at that stage
Do you have Alcohol or similar software installed? Also some rogue DRM enforcement software affects the capabilities of your computer in a similar way.

I swapped in another burner from another BenQ S61 and it would complete the burn, which tells me that its the optical Drive.

It was running PX45 firmware but thats identical to the unit i swapped with.

Any other suggestions?

I have now tried PX47 firmware as well as PA49 firmware. Neither have provided greatly improved burning success.

If i was to consider replacing the drive, what DVD-RW burner would you reocmmend?
