I never managed to get my 1620@162I running in more than UDMA2. Maybe I should try again...

| Ok, crossflashed my DW1640 to this firmware and my burst rate is now at 38MB/sec. I find it odd that if the hardware can do it, why didn't BenQ just have the drive run at UDMA4? I'm going to see if this firmware corrects my TYG03 issues or not.

Still have the same problem not being able to get my 1640@164B run faster than UDMA-2. Uninstalled other drives, moved "1640" drive around on my IDE channels, pri.,sec.,mas. and slave to no avail. |

| I've just crossflashed my internal DW1640 to EW164B. When I originally installed it, I found no difference in burst rate (23MB/s) when using a 40 conductor cable compared to an 80 conductor cable. I guess it didn't matter because the 1640 firmware only allowed UDMA2. Now, after flashing to EW164B, the 40 conductor cable only allows UDMA2 with a burst rate of 23MB/s whereas an 80 conductor cable allows UDMA4 with a burst rate of 37MB/s. I also have a DW1640 at home in a Prolific PL-3507 based enclosure. I'll crossflash that tonight and see what happens. |

| Master or Slave settings do not matter at all.

Looks like that wasn't the issue after all - as the problem came back with even greater strength today

Tried completely removing all the garbage and even uninstalling Nero so there will be NO ASPI at all. But then Nero CD/DVD-Speed can't see the external drives

OEM BenQ DW1640 (June 2005) in a PL-3507(C) based enclosure. With the drive flashed as DW1640: USB2.0 (20MB/s) 1394 (22MB/s) With the drive flashed as EW164B: USB2.0 (22MB/s) 1394 (27MB/s) The first image is the transfer rate when flashed as DW1640 connected via 1394. The second image is the transfer rate when flashed as EW164B connected via 1394. I'm seeing that same dip in reading speed that others have seen. The third image is the burst rate when flashed as EW164B connected via 1394. |

| I got pretty much same results as mankmeister. I can only burn 12X but get good results with TY02's and MCC004's (that's all the media i tried). I flashed back to BSLB which was a pain in the a@@ like Pinto2 and stuck my NEC back in the external case for now. |
