Hello,

I tried finding an answer in the forums, but nothing seems to work.

My Burner worked fine until recently I tried to burn a DL disk, which failed.

Now I Can't change my write speed, it is locked on 4x, which would be fine if every burn attempt didn't fail. I just upgraded my firmware but that hasnt helped either. DMA is enabled and have tried different media types.

I have no idea what to do next, and I would appreciate any help I can get.

I don't have a very good grasp on how these things work, so please excuse my ignorance in advance.

Hi!

My DW1655 also stopped working a few days ago. I tried changing the IDE cable and testing the drive with different (pressed) DVD & CD media, but it would not work. The drive was aprox. 7 months old and it came with a 3 year warranty.

I requested an RMA and sent the drive in for review. Today I recieved a mail stating rhe drive was indeed defective. However, they could not repair or replace the drive for a 'new' DW1655 because Benq has none in stock. This was very disapointing!

Try flashing to a different firmware. If this doesn't help, re-investigate DMA (Windows is sometimes looney for DMA so deleting the IDE controller and rebooting is the best thing to do). If this doesn't work, reseat the IDE cable at both ends. If this doesn't work, change the IDE cable. If this doesn't work, I guess your burner is out of service. :-( (unless it's the mobo IDE controller, which can happen but is very unlikely).
