My benq dvd burner is just not working. I am a total n00b when it comes to the real tech stuff like this but I would really like to get this stupid thing fixed xP
It works fine as a cd rom for games and stuff, but when I try to use nero to burn it, it dosent even see the drive as a burner, it goes to my demon tools
Allso, I have somehow misplaced or lost my cd for it, so I don't even know if I am missing drivers that I need from that for it to work.
I cant use it to burn anything, cds, dvds.. Cant use nero, alc, windows media or even just pasteing files in there and clicking burn xP
I'm at the point of hair pulling here cuz I REALLY need this stuff to work asap. I allready have been to benq's site but there wasn't any help on the subject. As well as all the drivers they had didnt look like they'd help with anything.
If anyone knows what the hell is going on with my drive I'd be eturnaly greatful
Just as a added bit of info, in "my computer" the windows xp pic of it says "cd-r" and the name of it is "cd drive (E: )"

Try uninstalling the drivers for the IDE channel that your burner is on and then reboot. Windows will reinstall new Microsoft drivers when you reboot. -

You must be using an old version of Nero.. try a newer one or another burning software (there are some freeware) __________________

Well it cant be my nero, just for the simple fact that it dosent work with anything else. I just formated my comp like a month ago and this is the first time I have had to burn anything.Quote:Originally Posted by NightTranif you add your drive after nero update it may not see your as dvd burner ( if you did not have dvd burner there before or your nero EOM came with another burner)
I will try redoing the drivers like that wobble and report/edit what happens

Allright, I did that, but its just the same as befor xP -

try using CDSpeed (freeware) to do a test burn (use a RW if you prefer), it's a rather useful diagnostic tool. __________________

Look, it is not that so please do not suggest to me to try test burns on something THAT CAN NOT BURN.
ALL of my burning programs (All windows programs like windows media and even folder, as well as nero and this one other I had) Do NOT work at all. It dosen't accept that it is a dvd burner and every thing I try just dosent work.
I have tryed
It is not a problom with nero. I say agian, not a probom with nero.Quote:Try uninstalling the drivers for the IDE channel that your burner is on and then reboot. Windows will reinstall new Microsoft drivers when you reboot.
I have no idea what the problom is, but it is not nero, nor my ide channel w/e.
To macclipper, I can't try to do a test burn IF THE DRIVE ISNT ACCEPTED AS A BURNER. I don't mean to be rude xP But please if your going to offer suggestions, please read the full first post befor you think you know whats going on xP
I'm not a noob, I do know things about computers. So if its a "You can do a one click here and its fixed" kinda thing, I've allready tryed it.
Is there any other probloms like this that you know of for this drive model? Maybe my drive is just defective, but that dosent tell me why it would still work as a cd rom (Dosent work as a dvd rom)
I really don't know anything about cd drives and how they work on the inside, so I cant really say why it would do one thing and not the other. Thats why I just think its some other problom.
I still could really use the help, so if anyone reads the first post and might know why things are screwing up for me, or even some questions to ask that might better help towards me getting this all fixed, I would be more then happy to reply to any of those. -

Hi
If the drive is seen by your setup, but incorrectly identified then updating f/w may help. If already the latest try reflashing the same f/w. This may or not do anything. Stick to official f/w for now.BenQ 1655 f/w:

So you first need to make sure that it is hooked up right inside the tower.
There is a wire that goes from the player inside to your sound card that could be backwards.
Next do you have Limewire or someone who can send you the driver for the drive?
If all else fails try updating the driver online thru the control panel. -

Welcome to the forum.
The 1655 doesn't have this audio connecter, so we can eliminate that.
You shouldn't need a driver for the drive. As the drive is seen, albeit incorrectly. This implies a problem with either the ide cable or f/w. Or both if drive has been flashed using a faulty ide cable. -

Try connecting it to another IDE channel, one which you know it is not defective. __________________

Sounds like driver conflicts. In Alcohol and Daemon Tools, find the "hide cd-r" options and disabled it.Quote:Originally Posted by Avatar_MikeIt works fine as a cd rom for games and stuff, but when I try to use nero to burn it, it dosent even see the drive as a burner, it goes to my demon tools

If that doesn't help then download Nero InfoTools and post the log here.
You don't need any driver for the burner to work. But if you want to play around with the settings, you can download QSuite.Quote:Allso, I have somehow misplaced or lost my cd for it, so I don't even know if I am missing drivers that I need from that for it to work.
Let us know how it goes.__________________

I'm pritty sure it isnt a problom with my IDE. I only had this problom after I formated my computer, makeing me think its something software or I have set it up wrong somewhere along the way. Basicly everything in my comp is no older then 6 months, so I'd doubt any hardware probloms.
zevia, I was thinkin the same thing about alc, I was thinkin there might be some kinda conflict, but I don't really know the program that well. I will have a go at finding that option and post back if that helps any. -

I didn't see any options for that, so I just ended up removeing it. It didnt do anything for me.
What does Qsuite do? Is it a program you need for this to work? Or is it just one of those burn speed programs to test how well your drive is working? Cuz my drive isn't being accepted at all as a burner. And when I go to open up a blank disk (from my computer) it says
"E:/ is not accessible.
Incorrect Function." -

When you installed the drive in your pc did make sure to set the jumper correctly? Either to MASTER or SLAVE.
Try uninstalling NERO BURN then use NERO CLEANER. Then reinstall NERO BURN. You can find the NERO CLEANER at the Nero website.
Please check your BIOS to see if the BENQ 1655 drive is recognized. If it isn't then enable it to AUTO.__________________

I'm the type of guy thats right into the hardware end of things so I know all about that and the BIOS.. However what I know becomes fuzzy when it comes to trouble shooting over things that just don't work. I'm no tech, just a guy who builds comps xD
The jumpers are right, set as the slave to my lg dvd rom. I don't see how takeing nero off and useing a nero cleaner would help. It isn't JUST nero that isn't working. EVERYTHING isn't working. Therefor, I would think that it would have nothing to do with nero. Thats just my logic tho... -

When you uninstall software it sometimes will leave behind registry entries in your windows registry. Nero Clean tool will remove any entries that were left behind after you've uninstalled it. You'd be surprised at what uninstalling software can do. Have you tried using a new ide cable on the drive? Have you tried hooking up the drive by itself without the LG dvd-rom?Quote:I don't see how takeing nero off and useing a nero cleaner would help. It isn't JUST nero that isn't working. Troubleshooting hardware and software conflicts can be a pain in the ass. It's up to you whether or not you want to use the suggestions that have been made to you by the members of this forum. Lastly if you really think the drive is defective then install it into another computer. That should tell you if the drive is functional or not.

To my knowledge, Benq's can be picky about being set as anything other than master. I haven't seen that you have tried it as master yet and put your LG as the slave on the IDE channel. Make sure to switch the jumpers and cable connections if you try this. __________________
