BenQ / Philips Writer Discuss, BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing at CD and DVD Writers forum; I went to two Comp USA's today and the Comp USA Burner WITH Lightscribe had the model number DRW-6S160H on the back right hand side of the box. The Comp USA Burner WITHOUT Lightscribe had the model number DW1650 listed. The Lightscribe unit appears not to be a BenQ.

This seems to be an OEM Liteon SHW-160H6S.

Does anybody know if the 830s are rebadged BenQs?
The 830's are Samsung drives: See here for more info:http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=193839

Thanks BWigg. It's appears to be a good driver, the only issue might be the price: $69.

I wondering did you actually verified that any Norwood or Compusa" brands had BenQ 1640 in the box? so many members still looking for 1640 drive.

Hi TCAS
I was talking about the Sony 810s at Walmart. I opened the boxes and i saw that 2 of them had 810A printed on the drive and their manufacture date was january 2006. The rest said 810A-R.
I would have bought one 810A but I think it's too expensive at $69 (and I already have 3 1640 [2 of them 810], 1 1650, 1 1655, and 1 1625).
What seems strange to me is that the 810, 820 and 830 were priced the same.
I have not visited Compusa in a couple months, I don't like their service or their people.

I just bought a BenQ 1270 from Meritline. Took 2 days for delivery, and it was packaged in double containers and included Nero, which I already have. Never had any problems with meritline.

We have to be careful for this re-appearance of BenQ that are not customers return. If you notice once in a while one or two reappears in the stock and then goes away for while.

When I looked at Newegg they had something in red that said: (99999) instock, so I typed in the quantity box 100 and it showed only 2 with the insuffient amount in red showing.

All gone.
I was hoping they'd add free shipping.
I shouldn't have waited.
From what I've been reading, this is THE burner.
It can even back-up protected game discs.

If anyone knows of any drive that can do what this one can, please tell me.
Actually, I think a Plextor can measure-up or even surpass this drive but it's more than three times as much as this BenQ.

Where (what country) does BenQ still do business?

Will a drive purchased from that country play U.S. discs?

I think the page read "New" and not "Refurbished".

I spotted one of these last night and ordered one retail version DW1655. I put in quantity 100 and it showed 5 left. I woke up this morning and they were gone. I just checked my order status and it shows "Shipped from Refurbish Warehouse". I don't remember anything in the description that said refurbished so I am hoping it is new or else a working refurbish. Newegg must have gotten a few units in and sold them fast.

All you fine US folks should come to the UK, and pay a visit to PC World. Their prices are a bit high, but the day before yesterday they had a whole pile of retail boxed 1650s.

Why even bother buying a 1655 from another country? COMPUSA has the rebadged 1655 under the brand called, "CONNECT COMPUTER".

I agree not just that but "Compusa" their own brand, Norwood, HI-VAL and possibly I/O Magic all have good chance to be repackage of Benq 1655.

It was a factory sealed retail unit. I installed it and it works fine. Great looking scan on my first backup (better than my DW1650?). Also seems quieter on recording and playback than my other drives. I vote for BenQ 16XX series as the "best overall" drives....too bad they are no longer generally available. Good luck if you can find one, rebadged or otherwise. I just got lucky. cheers, gamma1

Yes a bit high but I picked one up last Sunday - just in case as a back up for my other drives - removed an old Plextor 716A - (which was a replacement for an earlier 716A which failed) and burned a couple of disks. Using TY at 8X nothing comes close - If I didn't already have a 1620 a 1640 and 2 1655's I would happily have paid double and given the Plextor in trade.

Look like the BenQ 1655 is or might turn out to be the best of BenQ dives.

I will have to disagree the 1640 w/BSLB is at least as good if not better IMHO(in fact so far my H22L rivals the 1655 on +R media )

I will say the tray mechanism does feel more solid on the 1655

Here Taiwan, we are still have a pile of retail boxed BenQ 1640/1655, the less important, 1670. Liteon(or BenQ Manufacturing Department) are continuing provide BenQ 16xx to east asia. Such as Mainland China, Japan, Hongkong, and Taiwan I even spotted a Philips-rebadged 1650 near my home

BenQ is a taiwanese company. I think we should get the hometown privilege.
