Not at all. I have zero problems burning TYG02 discs at 12x speed with B7P9 firmware. I think pinto2's drive or media had some issues. Please see this post showing another good 12x TYG02 burn on my DW1620:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=177

I'm sorry that Pinto2's drive couldn't burn this media type at 12x speed without errors using B7P9 firmware. My experience with TYG02 discs has been very positive with B7P9 firmware.

Sapa,

Not that this IS your fix, but I had what I assume to be a bad firmware flash that prevented me from burning TYG02 properly. See the thread HERE for more detail. Maybe a clean flash to L for cleansing and back to P or T might do the trick? Ever since I resolved my issue I've been VERY happy with my TYG02 burns (see message #1 on this thread).

Thanks insaneoctane

My problem is nearly the same as yours with lesser slow-down. Only the G02 burns slow : 10 mn at 12X and 8.40 at 16X.

I'll give the B7L9 trick a try. I thought I woulldn't have to because other media burn as they should (T02 take 6:05 at 16X).

eleewhm,

What settings for buffer size and transfer length do you use in DVD Decrypter?

Hey guys, here's a scan of MXL RG03, made in japan, burned with the 1620 at 12X. I thought these discs were supposed to be very good but, the scans tell otherwise, can someone else please comment on this scan if it's good or not.

The scan looks good to me.

CDSpeed rates your quality score at 95%, meaning your PIF peaks are good.

Your PIE total is 118,218, which I think is a little bit high (I like this to be below 100,000), but it's not high enough to worry about. Your PIE peaks to 39 at the end of the burn, but this is not high enough for concern.

Similarly, your PIF total is a little bit high at 2015 (I like this to be below 2000), but again not enough for any concern.

If you want, you could try setting CDSpeed to scan this disc at the full 16X to get a worse case scenario. My bet is the disc is good enough that your PIF's (the most important numbers) would still be fine (max below 16).

Well, I've got another solid burn. This time only at 12x. That's the speed I'm burning TYG02s now, it only takes 6:31 seconds...BenQ rocks!

Did you mean to say coaster them at 16x. It would appear so, with a PIF max of 10 on a Liteon 1633, a quality score of 50, and a failure to run a straight line transfer rate test. This is not a good result at 16x, and by my standards it is a failure.

That's a horrible burn. It has 5 PIF spikes in the "bad/unsafe" zone (peach colored background - PIF values above 4 for LiteOn drives). Why would you link to that burn as a good example of 16x burning pinto2? I have to agree with Inertia. Besides, we all know that a BenQ DW1620 burns better than a NEC 3500AG (kidding - don't start any flames - I just wanted to rile you up a bit LOL).

Insaneoctane

I tried to sanitize the drive with TDB B7T9 as an alternative to B7L9.
The result is that I burnt a TY G02 at 6.31 mn at 12X bur it took 9:00 mn at 16X.

Eventually I'll have to give B7L9 a try or use eleewhm setup (single drive on IDE 2) and B7K9. I would rather use a newer firmware after flashing to B7L9 though.

Not too bad for very "crappy" DVD-R media.

More of these very crappy media

I bought this 50 unit cake box before I tested my DVD Player with +R media, but I think these are good scans for the bucks!
