The second link (DVDRAM_WinXP_English.zip, May 26, 2003) is for the older version. I only have a French version of the older version. If you still want the older version, send me a private message with your email. And I will email you the French version. Please do not post your email in here. Or scramble it like Kenshin did. @Kenshin : You didn't get back to me about it yet, but are you willing to host the other language versions of the older driver also ? It would be easier for all who want it. |

| I can't find an edit button, so I'm making a new post. Just to let you know that I emailed Kenshin all language versions for WinXP (of the older driver version). Alternatively, if you want the newer version in another language, I guess you can always email LG Technical Support and ask the driver for the language and OS (XP, 2K, 9X) that you prefer. |

| I just bought mine today (LG GSA-4120B) and i want the DVD-RAM divers, the LG website is hosting the drivers (16mb zip file, multi-language) at: Code: http://us.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/main *************************************************************** Software Version Jan 09, 2004 BHA_VER.02-4 *************************************************************** Driver Software meiudf.sys - Ver 3.0.9.0 Format Software(DVDForm) - Ver 4.1.9.0 Write Protect Tool(WPTool) - Ver 1.1.2.0 RAM Assistance Tool(RAMASST) - Ver 1.0.9.0 1. Are these the GOOD drivers or there are other "enhanced/optimized" drivers somewhere else?? 2. I read about some "UDF drivers", where can i find those?? 3. I'm thinking in flashing my drive but i read that i should update but only if it's necessary (some problem in my drive that this flashing could fix). So, what are the benefits of flashing this drive? 4. Where can i find the main differences between the differents type of DVD media available today (dvd+r/dvd-r/dvd+rw/dvd-rw/dvd-ram) 5. I read many posts about some "DVD DL", what is this?? I would be glad someone could answer this to me. |

| The link is dead for me. And by the way check the version numbers. They are the same as the driver that LG send to me. They said in the email that it is the most current DVD-RAM driver they could offer. And the file (your link) is 16MB, because (apart from the DVD-RAM driver) all the other BHA software that comes with a retail version is also included. Maybe these are newer. But the updates for these are easy to download from LG's website anyway. I'll try to answer your questions, but most answers (if not all), you can find by searching this forum. 1. I guess LG knows best about drivers for their drives. (I mean from a pure technical point of view. Nothing to do with CD/DVD copying politics that allow you to do or not do certain things.) 2. meiudf.sys (notice the "udf" in the name). 3. I always first tryout a drive's BIOS with everything I want to do and the media I want to use for it. Also various brands of media that are easy to get where I live, recommended by the drive maker or not. If it's working and not too slow, there is no need to flash. If you really need to flash : The firmware page But first read the warnings about doing this. 4. This forum ? DVD FAQ DVD Forum DVD-RAM Group CDRInfo Forum 5. DVD DL = DVD dual layer (not double sided). Read any review of the GSA-4120B (or any other drive capable of writing in this format) and you'll find a good explanation of it. | Well all of a sudden I received my GSA-4120B today. And it was not just the bare drive. Everything is here. Booklets, driver and software CD, Owners manual CD, Sound card cable, IDE cable. Everything except the retail box. And the reseller said it would be just the bare drive. I noticed one thing though. There is no more Matsushita/Pansonic DVD-RAM driver. What's included : Ahead InCD v4.2.4.1, Ahead Nero (plus other Ahead software), PowerDVD 5, MLauncher. |

| Hello: recently I purchased two 4163 LG drives, (from NewEgg), OEM version. I immediately updated the Firmware to A4. My first comment is that the LG web site(s) is a disaster: could not find a manual, could not find driver, and also very slow and clumsy. LG obviously does not have the capacity to run a user usable web site, unlike many of its competitors (Asus is great). One drive is intalled on Linux (Suse 9.3) and works just well, either as an UDF-DVDRAM or other modes: I am a happy camper. The only issue is that only the "windows" mode (UDF 1.x) of UDF works well, the UDF 2.0 does not work: obviously a driver version issue, I expect SUSE to provide a fix. UDF 2.0 is supposed to be faster with large files among other advantages. SUSE LINUX 9.3 + LG 4163B = Good ================================= The other drive is installed on Windows 2000... and works but not in DVD-RAM mode: lack of an UDF-DVD-RAM driver. Any idea how to get the DVD-RAM driver for Windows 2000? WINDOWS 2000+ LG 4163B = OK but no DVD-RAM Also I tried to use the Panasonic DVD-RAM driver without any success. Thanks. | Haven't worked with Win2k for a while, so just guessing here, but have you tried Nero InCD yet? It's the easiest way to use dvd-ram in WinXP, so why not in 2k. You may need SP4.

| DVD RAM Driver WINXP for LG (my is USP 2.0 connected): http://sele.joomble.de/00000095de0f98f0e/index.html It is a german page and if you open the archive it is for German, However i am using it under a WIN-XP professional English and it is working fine. I experienced personally that the WIN 2000 Version is running fine. Franz99 you are looking for a WIN98 Version. On the mentioned page there is one, but id didn't test it. Hope this helps some of you Greetings Siggi |

| This is the latest Matsushita driver with the drive check disabled so it works on LG drives. http://rapidshare.de/files/8176193/X...21NEN.rar.html |

| LG has not provided the DVDRAM driver for a while now since arout the 4040 drive (I presume because of royalties they will have to pay Panasonic if they do, but windows Xp has native support for DVDRAM (unfortunately only FAT32 formatting and not much else) the latest version is Panasonic version XPDrv5021 August 5, 2005 *************************************************************** Driver Software meiudf.sys - Ver 4.0.7.0 Format Software(DVDForm) - Ver 4.2.2.0 Write Protect Tool(WPTool) - Ver 1.1.6.0 DVD-RAM Utility(DVDTool) - Ver 1.1.3.0 RAM Assistance Tool(RAMASST) - Ver 1.1.0.0 You can get the lastest version from other websites such as BHA or maybe you could search this forum and SEE? if you get a result from "Panasonic DVD-RAM device driver". The advantage of the Panasonic driver is you can format in either FAT32, UDF 1.5, UDF 2.0 as well as the diskwrite protect utility (Locks disk and stops writing to it until you unlock it). And thier is versions available for 98, 2000, XP. I already have a Panasonic drive installed with my LG drive so I download and use the Original Panasonic driver. |

| I had to try loads of drivers before I found one thats works well with my LG DVD-RAM drive, but finally found these and they are working well with UDF 2.0: http://www.besy.co.uk/projects/windows/dvd-ram.htm Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether I should be using UDF 1.5 or 2.0 (for data backup)? It's especially important to me that I be able to access my data from linux in the future. |

| According to Panasonic user's guide, UDF 1.5 is for data and 2.0 for video. These are the formats their RAM-drivers uses (at least the version I have), and I don't know if 2.0 "is for video" just because 1.5 wasn't covering the necessary aspects. UDF 2.0 also supports data, anyway. Read that 2.01 is better for streaming video (BHA). InCD formats several other UDF flavours. As your mind is to use Linux, FAT32 is a good solution for Linux also. It's advantage is that providing your system can see the disk, it will be seen as an removable HDD and you read/write to it without any software required. UDF's require packet writing software under windows. You can find refs to DVD-RAM in Linux since several kernel versions back. As an exemple, have a look to: http://www.ccp14.ac.uk/ccp14admin/li...ges_to_dvdram/ |

No problem at all. If you don't mind downloading 64MB, then Toshiba USA is the most reliable source. Search for "DVD RAM driver" and you'll find what you need. The most recent version supports both of your writers out-of-the box. After that, get the "updater" from www.bhacorp.com Michael Note: Although some of these packages are only described as "XP drivers", they also contain the files for W2k. |
