I just bought a LG GSA-H50N and it works very nicely that I can see with newly purchased Verbatim DVD+RW 8X media MID MKM A03 , but (Arrgh!) it won't write a booktype of DVD-ROM. My other burner (an old NEC 3500) doesn't recognize this media type. I really wish that I new how to upgrade firmware so i could change the bitset of my new RW media.

Is Hitachi firmware version JJ12 available yet for the H10N?

My drive was already flashed first with TDB JJ11, and then flashed again to official Hitachi JJ11 (I only used the TDB firmware as a means to an end), so I just want to know if JJ12 is out yet. I've seen references to it, but it doesn't seem to actually exist.

And yes, I've already read the LG FAQ. I just want to know if Buffalo or IO-Data has released a new official Hitachi JJ12 firmware, and if so, do you have a direct link.

Latest official firmware for retail drives is CL01. CJ03 seems to be a OEM firmware, which is not available from LG.

I need to know if I bought a NEW LG GSA-E60L external USB DVD Drive: (1) will the product label of the drive within the external casing be labeled GSA-H55L or GSA-H55Li (same hardware but an internal drive) AND (2) is the GSA-H55L or GSA-H55Li drive flashed with firmware GSA-E60L? I ask this because I bought a GSA-E60L from an eBay vender who said the drive is refurbished directly from LG and a dump of the firmware loaded on myGSA-E60L is 'HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55L' Ver 1.06. Depending on your answer to this question I will OR will not be able to return my DVD drive to the vendor for refund. There is no GSA-E60L firmware to be found on any support site that I can load to correct the problem. I believe the answers will be 'YES' to both question 1 & 2 above.

Your input appreciated. Especially if you have a LG GSA-E60L drive

However, since LG are notoriously bad at releasing updated firmwares for their external drives (in spite of the fact that sometimes they do have the firmware updates available - they just don't bother to release them publicly), the E60L firmware the drive should normally come flashed with will be most likely much older than the latest H55L firmware available from their website (v1.06 which came out a few months ago), therefore you will be better off crossflashing your E60L to a H55L anyway, as this will give you newer writing strategies and better media support which means the unit will burn better! You'll also get a far better chance of having future firmware updates for H55L drives than for E60L drives.

If the drive works OK and you got it for a decent price, my advice would be to keep it ... the seller actually saved you the trouble of having to crossflash the drive yourself.
