LG Writer Discuss, my LG 4163B, need help! at CD and DVD Writers forum; I bought this HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B with firmware: AX12 (very odd, right?), then I used the firmware update utility to update it to A101. But when I have done this, I found that the model is changed to: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GUA-4163B A101 (please note it's GUA, not GSA). I don't

Maybe the *.bin fimware can save me, because I have FWLoadeX.exe utility which can flash *.bin firmware to LG drivers. But I have not got any GSA-4163B *.bin firmware... Anyone who have this? Thank you.

Either your IDE cable is bad or (more likely) your burner has reverted into the core mode.
Please try to reflash with another firmware, like A106.

Thanks, but what you said can't resolve this problem.
I have said: the update utility can't recognize this device because the model name has changed from GSA-4163B to GUA-4163B.
I wonder how can I do to change the device's name?

Hello shaoxuan and welcome to the forum,

Change your IDE cable with a new one. Strange firmware versions like AX12 being reported are usually a sign the cable is defective, so the information read from the drive is corrupted. You need to do this, otherwise, flashing your drive again with a defective cable can lead to more problems.

Also, if you have another drive connected to the same IDE cable, disconnect it. Run the drive connected alone on the IDE cable. Some CD/DVD drives conflict with other drives when connected together.

Once you have done all this, try with A106 from here :
http://tdb.rpc1.org

There is a chance this version of firmware will ignore the different version number and flash the drive anyway.
