How are these firmwares packed by the way? PS. TDB's JW6 Flash Utility can handle 2MB firmwares just fine, I used it to flash a H22N drive without any problems. |

| Hello I downloaded the new firmware for my LG dvd writer: GH22NS40_NL01(EW).zip It has an exe file inside the zip. Will it be possible to use this with MCSE? is it similar to the GH22NS30 or should I wait until GH22NS40 is explicitly supported on MCSE page ? edit: my main reason would be to remove the riplock to put cds & dvds on my pc faster. Thanks |

To put it in polite terms, the firmware support for the whole GH/GE20 family is absolutely dismal ... these drives are probably the prime candidate for the Worse Firmware Support Award! Pre- and post- GE/GH20 drives all have better firmware support ... LG should be ashamed of themselves ![]() LG's support for external drives is almost nonexistent as a rule ... the LG thinking must be "the more expensive it is the less we should support it" No great expectations there, but at least the support for internal drives is half decent ... Not for the GH20 though ... I don't recollect any other family of LG desktop drives for which the firmware available for the internal versions is much older than the firmware for the external units (even older than FE05, never mind FE06!) ... If anyone from LG is watching, for God's sake people, at least release (officially or otherwise) the firmware you've already got if not developing newer updates! What's the point in having the firmware available but keeping it for yourselves? ![]() Jeez! ![]() Thanks Tuco1966 for the opportunity of a good rant ![]() It doesn't solve the problem at hand, but you never know ... maybe someone is watching after all ... |

| Does anyone know if it is possible to crossflash a GH22LS40 drive with the patched (riplock) GH22LS30 firmware? I would really like to improve the reading speed of my LS40 drive and don't want to wait until next release of MCSE since I don't know when that will be. If it is possible, if you can give me a link to a thread that would outline the proceedure, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. |

| I have a LG GSA-H10N drive and had the following problems with MCSE 1.1.0.21 and also 1.1.0.22: 1) The speed increasing patch (riplock patch) did work for different medias but not for some DVDROM-DL (PTP). I tested the firmwares JL11 and JL12 (and partly JL05, JJ11) with 4 different DVDROM-DL (PTP). Oddly enough different DVDROM-DL (PTP) were locked with different firmwares. 2) The decrease DVD read speed patch didn´t work with the media I tested. 3) I tested 1 DVDROM-DL (PTP) with JE07 and speed increasing patch. The result was that the speed was decreased. 4) When I clicked in MCSE on Read speed increase the cross didn´t stay and the decrease box got inactive. When I click again on Read speed increase the cross stayed in the check-box. 5) Please ala42 fix these problems with the next release. Thanks in advance. 6) If needed I can do some testing. |

| What is the booktype of your disks, DVD-ROM or DVD-VIDEO ? Posts cdspeed TRT scans of your disks made with the original unpatched firmware.

| ALA42: I have a situation, I am trying to use MCSE(latest version) to add/change a media code for a LG GGW-H20L YL05, the media I want to add is from Japan (Panasonic LM-BR25MAW)( media code :BD-R-SL:MEI-RA1-001)this media is supposedly 1-6x. Dvdidentifier says that for this disk there are two desriptors 2x and 4x, for this drive. When I load YL05 into MCSE this media is not listed; so I have tried several ways to change an existing media or use a no_id media or even to try dvd not used listing to change to the import of dvdidentifier; nothing seems to work. ![]() When I click on a MEI BD-R listing (T01, T02)(the only BD-R MEI's listed) and try to import - nothing changes and the 2nd and 3rd fields of the media code are greyed out as well as the speed settings, the same thing happens with the NO_ID listing and for a DVD type which IS NOT USED, I cannot change the media type for the DVD (not used) instance. The only box which allows manual change is the first of the three of the media code, and even when I try to change that to MEI and hit set, nothing changes. Am I doing something wrong; I have tried to change the Dvdidentifier options, to no avail. Or is this just not supported for this drive; I have also tried loading in YL03, the same thing happens (or doesn't). So, I have been able to use the increase read patch, but I sure would like to be able to use the 6x capability of this media, I also have a Buffalo BR-816SU2(a Matshita SW-5584) - it burnned a different (LM-BR25MDE)EDIT: (This media has the same media code as the different model listed early in this post MEI RA1 001) Panasonic disk at 8x, it said it was a 1-6x disk, but I haven't been able to try the media I refered to in the beginning of the post in this drive yet to see what happens; in anycase I would just like to be able to change a media code with your neat tool!!! ![]() ![]() Any ideas??? thanks...

| Yes. Readíng starts at 5x, so it max speed is ~12x, which is fine for a DL disk. What makes you think there is a riplock when you read your DVD ?

Do you have a drive that can run quality tests on BD-R disks ?

| I forgot the question to 4) of #1210 (permalink). Here it is: Normal behaviour? To #1211 (permalink): All DVDs I tested were of type DVD-Video. Attached is a cdspeed TRT screenshot. I checked the changelog file and found out that in 1.1.0.17 the decrease patch was added. I thought that it would be a good idea to test this version but I couldn´t find it. Where are the old versions stored in the internet? |

using nero disc speed I have editted the registry to include the drives usually not allowed to run quality tests (HD-ST-DT, TSST) that includes almost all my drives, except for the buffalo br-816su2 and pioneer bdr-203, these drives should work, i have not attempted to do this yet w/ bd discs, I also have dvdinfo which will run quality tests too I understand, why do you ask? Does it have to do with better quality burns at lower write speeds? Please explain writing at 4x would be the same at writing at 6x - this I do not understand??? THANKS! Jeff - sloveheart

| @ALA42: With the latest version of MCSE you made it possible to crossflash an external GE20LU10 to GH20. Great! But unfortunately I own the GE20NU10 (withought lightscribe), so the patched firmware does not find a target drive. Could you implement support for GE20NU10 <-> GH20 crossflash, or does it not work for some technical reasons? As far as I know the firmware for the GE20LU10 leaked out though it was never released officialy. - Not sure about the GE20NU10 firmware. Just trying to get rid off the annoying riplock. Any help is appreciated. |

As you have a drive that supports your MEI-RA1-001 disks at high write speed and no way to run a quality test on bluray disks, I do not think it makes sense to risk bad quality burns by using a non matching write strategy.

Have you tried to flash the drive with modified JW02 ? Was it a success ? I have the same drive with firmware JQ01. Thanks Ian |
