I clicked on the drop down as my LG is the only drive and highlighted it then clicked save. Went to saved f/w and tried to flash and get the above message.

Edit:
I figured it out now Sorry it works fine here I thought you just had to choose it not click it

Did you get the following dialog after clicking your model number in the drop down list? Albeit with a different model in your case.

I have only one LG drive, so it was showing in the crossflash box.
I looked at the box, but there was no other drive.
We need to click on the down arrow and select the drive to get the
"do you want to crossflash" message. Thanks.

I have a Optodiscw002 DVD-RW which has 2x write speed.
I am trying to increase its burn speed.

I opened MSCE. I double clicked on Optodiscw002.
Replace media strategy list opens up. I selected Optodiscw006
first. Optodiscw002 turned into 6x, 4x, 2x. I clicked on the
Set speed and saved the firmware. I flashed the firmware.
I put the disc and it still shows as 2x burn speed.
I have Nero 7.7.5.1. I also used TDF701saku to replace it.
I even deleted Optodiscw002 from the list. But, disc still
shows as Optodiscw002 at 2x speed. Am I doing something wrong?

The Optodisc firmware probably locks the write speed to the disk speed. Also overspeeding RW media in general does not work well if at all as the dye does not like the higher laser power of a 6x burn.

Thank you for your response. I thought there might be some trick I am missing.
I thought maybe I needed to use a different burning software.

If it worked, I would have tried to burn at 4x, 6x would have been too much. Even at this speed, I was guessing media
might be damaged. Since these discs are slow speed, I do not use them much so I would not mind.

I just wanted to say... thanks a TON for this tool! It relieved me of my one "negative" point of my LG GSA-H10A burner - it burns all my discs perfectly but it only reads pressed DVDs at 4x! Now I'm blazing along at 12x! Man, I thought my 8x-reading DVD drive was fast! Great work!

No. It did not work on 4164/4166 drives, but works on H22 drives. I am not sure how the H20 behaves with the lossless strategy swaps.

LG released a new Firmware for their GSA-H30N too (1.02). Will you release an update of MediaCodeSpeedEdit for this Firmware? The actual version (1.0.9.9) doesn't work with it

It does work with it. Check the first post of this thread again for tips how to handle 4164/66/H20-H31 drives.

ala42,

Are to going modify MCSE to work with the H42L? I would like to convert it to a H42N so that I can use the RJ11 firmware. I don't really want or need the lightscribe feature.

Thanks.

MCSE does already support to crossflash a H42L to H42N.

When I load the RJ11 firmware in MCSE it only gives the 42N as a drive ID for crossflash - no 42L is displayed. I have a 42L installed as the secondary master on the computer FWIW.

Any chance there is a way to remove the riplock on a GSA-E30L external burner? :-)

Here are the LG related changes:
Code:
Changelog
1.0.9.10 12 Mar 2007
        - added support for HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GSA-H30N 1.02
        - verified support for GSA-H20/22 1.02 firmwares
        - changed behaviour of crossflash selection box for LG and Benq 1670
firmwares to avoid confusion. Box displays no drive name now if
the crossflash patch has not been applied.
        - added H42L@H42N crossflash option for GSA-H42L drives
Such a crossflash removes the Lightscribe feature as there
is currently no way back because no H42L firmware is available.
        - added support for GSA-T11N A103
Current support is read only, looking for testers.
