MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers

LG Writer Discuss, MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for LG DVD-Writers at CD and DVD Writers forum; I used several rip programs with several discs. All programs and all discs ripped well with my other dvd burner, but not with the LG GSA-E10L. One time I waited for 2 hours and still the disc was ripped only 20MB. PS. All other jobs worked well with the LG.

Well, even with 1x speed the Drive should not take more than 2 hours for a complete DL DVD.
And with the standard speed when riplocked your drive should not take more than 30 minutes for a complete DL DVD.

I used Media speed edit 1.0.9.6 with my LG 4040b and now I can burn the DVD-r discs I modified in the firmware. However, since I flashed the drive with the modified firmware, it is unable to write to my DVD-ram disc. I can view the content of the disc (although it takes quite a while for the drive to recognize it), but when I try to copy something to it, it says that the disc structure is corrupt. I also noticed that when I open a firmware in mcse it doesn't list media codes for DVD-ram discs. Is this a known bug?

You have to play the video for a few seconds with a DVD player software to unlock the copy protection, then run the TRT.

Which firmware did you use before, which firmware did you modify ? How does the drive behave if you flash this firmware without modifying it ?

No, it is a missing feature.

I was using the latest firmware for the drive. A304. It is also this firmware which I have modified. Before modifying the firmware I could write files to the dvd-ram disc like I copy files to a harddrive using windows explorer.

I do not think that has anything to do with modifying the firmware. Flash the original firmware and try again.

Hi ala42,

Thanks for your efforts. Unfortunately this still doesn't work. I flashed back to the original update LE06, waiting for a solution.

If you want me to test drive a future release of MCSE, please feel free to send me a mail!

I flashed back to the original firmware and I still got the same error message. I'm beginning to think that it an UDF 2.5 driver I installed a while back ago that is causing it. Don't know how to uninstall it though. I'll try to reformat the disc and see if it solves anything.

Did you follow the instructions of post #554 ? With or without riplock, this has to work.

I have a GSA-H30L and HP did release a firmware update for it a few days ago.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...os=228&lang=en

Since MediaCodeSpeedEdit did not support it for now, is there a way that I can help to test it ?

I open the W60C6CQC.bin file (2006/12/26 15:31) with MediaCodeSpeedEdit and I can see this :

Media Code Speed Edit V 1.0.9.7
------------------------------------------
Firmware:
Bootcode: HL-DT-STDVD-RAM NEVERDIEN015
------------------------------------------
(...)

Thanks.

Welcome to cdfreaks
This firmware uses the same bootcode as the H31N firmware. In a first test you could check if the displayed write speeds match reality.

There's nothing on the Firmware Rev. line on the H31N ?

I've check four DVD-R (Comstar, Memorex, Verbatim, HP), one DVD+RW (Memorex) and two DVD+R DL (Memorex+Verbatim) and they are all match. Even a cheap WallMart's Comstar 8x DVD-R (UME01) witch I can burn only at 2x before this new firmware upgrade is now at 8x as it should be (I was interrested by MediaCodeSpeed for that reason at first, but the new firmware correct that --but I'm sure that I'll need it sooner or later--).

Ready for the 2nd test !

PS: I'ved use MediaCodeSpeed successfuly a year ago for my old GSA-4040b. Great tool !

12x max read speed for a DL disk is ok. Why do you think there still is a riplock ?

I know the H42N RJ11 it has a riplock, and I already have a non released patch for it, but PBA has a GSA-E10L, that rips fast.

Oh, that is great!

Because, still, none of my rip programs work with this drive. No problems with other drives.
Is there an other known patch available?

cdspeed TRTs show the drive works fine and transfers the data at high speed, so there is nothing to patch on the drive. The problem must by caused by something else.

riplock is a speed lock, which disables fast reading speeds for DVD-Video Discs, so the riplock patch removes that speed lock.

Or what do you mean with "just a riplock patch"

TDB say they're riplock patches only work on pressed dvd video not dvdrs

EDIT: LG FAQ says:
TDB's website also has some anti-riplock firmware for these drives, but it only removes the riplock for DVD-VIDEO and DVD-ROM media. It does not remove the riplock for DVD+/-R media.

So, i think MCSE removes it for DVD+/-R too (if there is a riplock for it. I never tested)
