The LG4081 write speed on -R media is restricted to 4x, check the LG 4081 review at cdrlabs.

Do you have a link to this firmware and the firmware revision name ?

@ala42: Do you know if LG has added a 12x speed option for dash media in the 4165 or 4167. They do not have any in the LG 4163 and I am wondering why?

I have no direct access to 4165/67 drives. I only know what FactFinder already answered you here.

Write SONY16D1 DVD-R with SONY08D1 strategy, at 8x.

will i be able to do all 3?

thanks

There is any easy to find out whether a write strategy swap has worked. Frist, you need ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter. Then follow these steps :

1. Do your strategy swap as normal.
2. After the system has rebooted from the flashing process, start ImgBurn/DVD Decrypter. If using DVD Decrypter, switch to ISO write mode.
3. Put in a blank disc with a media ID which you swapped strategies for.
4. After the disc spins up, look at the supported write speed list shown in the panel on the right. If the speeds match according to the strategies you swapped (e.g. SONYD16 now has a max write speed of 8x), the swap was successful and you can now do a test burn as usual. If not, the swap did not work, so don't waste a disk doing a test burn.

Please read post #204 regarding the 4120B:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=204

Another alternative to karangguni's suggestion is to use DVDIdentifier.

You find the restrictions of the 4120 support in the first post:
Quote:
Drive specific details:
LG GSA-4120
- Overspeeding of 4x media does not work
- Overspeeding of 8x media to 12x is not implemented yet
MCC003 DVD+R with TDK002 strategy will work @12x, because TDK002 is also supported at 12x
SONY D21 DVD+R with MAXELL 002 strategy will work @8x
SONY16D1 DVD-R with SONY08D1 strategy will work @8x

@ala42

So underspeeding is now implemented in 4120B?

16x media should work at 8x when swapped to a 8x media.

Could you add support for 4120B A117. And asking for overspeeding 8X media @ 12X would be too much?

The 4120B A117 is already supported, as you can see in the About box, the changelog and the first post of this thread. Allowing 8x@12x for +R media requires a rewrite from scratch of a larger code part because the firmware does not use a table for the selection. Without a CPU simulator the chances to get this running are close to zero, so I will probably not implement it.

I have a LG4163B (A105) drive and have just purchased fujifilm 16X DVD-R discs (ritekf1) and this drive can only burn these discs at 6X. Can anyone tell me which writing stratagy can I use to burn at 16X in Media Code Speed Edit?

Hello ala42,

I was wondering if you could take a look at the differences between DL11 and DL12 for the LG4167b. DL11 rips a little faster and maybe it will give you a hint as to where the riplock is.

Thanks for your hard work
Victor

Could you post a cdspeed transfer rate graph of DL11 and DL12 using the same test disk ?

It is no wonder it only burns those discs at 6x - RITEKF1 is supported in the firmware, but only at 6x. That is really odd.

In any case, perhaps you could try swopping it with RITEKG07 or RITEKM16? Those are other types of Ritek 16x DVD-R. I wonder why Ritek has so many different media type for 16x DVD-R.

Hi Ala42

I own a LG GSA-4167B DL12 and I have those 8x Princo with ID:PRINCO8X02
Those weren't burning higher than 4x
I used MCSE, renamed one PRINCO to PRINCO8X02, than I double-clicked on it
selected OPTODISC008
PRINCO8X02 is now 8x-4x.
saved
updated firmware

opened up DVD Identifier and.....

By renaming OPTODISC008 to PRINCO8X02 you can do this in one step. Anyway, you should scan your test burns on a drive that supports quality scans. Princo media is lowest quality.

Or switch to a better manufacturer like MCC and TY.

Well it look like that optodisc isn't working, Nero stop in Lead-in
Changing it to MCC 02RG20 it's working.
I have not access to BenQ or Lite-On or Nec to bench the dvd other than
Benchmark and ScanDisc in nero CD-DVD Speed. (got 2 LG dvdr)

No-label white face 4x and 8x (PRINCO8X02) have worked very well since 2 years with very rare faillure..
But I ordered 200 TYG02 should receive them next week.
At least TYG02 are already at 8x in the firmware, no need to switch it.

I'll post scans in the result thread

Is the lower read speed with DL12 reproducable with several DVDs or does it depend on other influences like drive temperature ?
Could someone confirm this difference between DL11 and DL12 ?
