Long seek time

just a quick one, i recently brought a dvd writer ( GSA-4167b) to replace my cd writer. When i burn music cds they burn fine, but when i use them in my car stereo or a CD PLAYER ( stereo), when i try to skip a track it seems to take ages for the cd player to access the track and it takes about 10 seconds instead of a a few seconds. BUT if put the music cd in my home entertaiment dvd player, when i skip a track i finds it like normal a few seconds at the most

is there some sort of explation for this

im using nero 7 to burn and a LG gsa 4167b

let me no what u think it could be

Re: Long seek time

Hi,

check firmware version of your drive. It should be DL13, earlier versions had problems with audio CDs. Also, you should update Nero, as this also had problems writing audio CDs in earlier versions.

Re: Long seek time

Hello Leow and welcome to the forum.

Run Nero Infotool. It comes as part of Nero itself, so you already have it. That will tell you about the firmware version your drive currently uses.

Firmware updates for your drive are available from one of LG's service sites. For example, http://au.lgservice.com. Click on Device Driver->DVD-ROM(Writer). Scroll down the list and look for your model of writer and you should find DL13. It might not be listed on the first page.

You should update Nero as well. Certain versions of Nero 7 had bugs, particularly with burning audio CDs, so it could be the cause of your problems as well.

Re: Long seek time

right ive just looked and im using DL11 firmware, ill download the new firmware and see what happens

What does changing the firmware of my dvd do ? is it like updating a game, and patching it ? sorting out the errors.

JUST downloaded it, and ive noticed that it says in the README that

1. Connect the drive as ¡°master¡± by it self, on the secondary IDE controller
with no other device on the same IDE cable, making note to set the jumper
on the back of the drive to the¡°master¡±position.

i do have another dvd rom in my system, i cant remeber if thats set as master or slave, can i get away with just updating it or would it be best to do what they say ?
