As for scanning on the S183L....burns of it scan fine with no error message(mind 16x@18x+R burn also produced an error message on the Benq..but that was the only one)

It has to be an issue with ??H62L chipset and Samsung scanning...???

nealh: Yeah, I've seen the 'beige faceplace' thing mentioned before. How does that work, though? Surely it looks ugly if the whole drive isn't in beige; wouldn't the actual tray still be black?

I don't have my S183L in right now. Do you want me to test LG-H42N with Sammy scan? Nota biggie to me.

yeah I think that would be helpful for me...if you have no issue..I may swap for a new drive then

The is an entire beige bezel...which is all you see on my computer

Actually on my drive my biggest concern is the noise it makes closing...sort like light ratchet sound..wonder if the drive is not a "good" one

Give me a few minutes. I'll have to find a disc i burned on my LG lol Might have to burn one but again nota biggie.

All my drives make a "ka plunk" sound when going shut. Like they seal shut when fully closed.

Edit:
Be easier if i just burn one (TY02) Needed to anyway.
This isn't media specific is it? And i take it you are burning video?

Re: LG GSA-H62N : Post your scans and questions here

Alright i'm finished. I have scanned the same disc with 3 different drives. I do get an error when using my S183L and the error is posted also. Is this the same error you get neal? Also i have scans in the post your S183L scans here thread of my S183L with DVD Video and Data discs with both + and - R SL so i guess none of them were burned with my LG.

Thanks Rolling56

The sound the drive makes is as if the gears make a slight ratcheting sound as they turn only on closing...not a "clunk" on closing

As for the error messages...I have gotten 3 different ones as I recall

no sense error
mode track error(this one occurred on the 16x@18x sony +R scanned with Benq/s183l...this was a real crappy disc)
command error...like yours

these errors only occurred with +R media...so this is clearly an issue with the Samsung S183L when scanning these H42/62 drives...probably a Renesas R8J32022HFPV chipset scanning issue like on the Benq's in the past????

Well i'd say the drive acts just like the H42L then even though i used a H42N to burn. No biggie to me i never use my S183L for scanning but i'd say you found a bug or they want it there

Edit:
Maybe registry fix must not be complete.

Re: LG GSA-H62N : Post your scans and questions here

if I can get some better media...I think this drive will be outstanding

I do not have a Liteon for scanning and I have pulled my 1655...but maybe I would put it back in and send the 183L out to the pasteur

I was hoping for better f/w support for my S183L but we do have MCSE now which i have not needed yet.

Re: LG GSA-H62N : Post your scans and questions here

I was thinking maybe the H42N/L,H44N/L, and the H62N/L can be cross flashed?

Crossflashing a PATA drive with a SATA firmware does not sound wise

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking i saw C0deKing flash a PATA to a SATA LH-Lite-On drive.

Re: LG GSA-H62N : Post your scans and questions here

Well, I thought the Verbatim 16x media was declining in quality...these Sony 16x +R D21 are just seem to be overall garbage
8x burn is worse than my 12x...I will post it later....

I believe this drive is very good drive...but I need to get some better +R meida to play with it

100% sure there is a scanning issue between the H42/H62 burns and using Samsung S183L as a scanner
I get the same command sense error everytime

Only thing that ticks me off is BB released a 12% off coupon on Mon(I bought the drive on Sun of course...so missed out on $49.99-12%-$5 off rewards coupon)

12%= $6. I'm going to go get one right now if they have any left with the 12% rewards coupon. I really don't need it as my H42N is the same thing just IDE. I want another good SATA drive. Be back later.

Just got back, hooked it up but it's not in my case. It's on my desk. Windoze XP Pro recognizes it and installed it. I open it and it klunks when opening and then klunks again on closing. No noise in between other than hearing the drive open and shut. Just a smooth glide in and out like my other drives. I'll burn a few later. They had 5 total here at BB on the shelf.

Hmm..I think there maybe an issue with my drive then....mine make clearly different noise than open/close clank

well I will exchange it out..no big deal really....

I said I expected this drive to be a champ on good media, not the sh*t I have currently

the other thing to note is his 16x burn on MCC004 is about as fast as 18x on my Sony media

Up to you neal. I don't hear any ratchet sounds.

MCC004 @18X PAPA same stack as the other one. Another spectacular burn here I think it burns better than my H42N

Hey scan one of these in the S183L if it in your system

Yeah..I am taking it back and swapping for a new one(not because of burns but my luck the drive will fail to oen/close after 30days)...my BB had no less than 10 of these
