[QUOTE=hwp]It seems we don't have a thread for the H44N/L models. So i'll start one with a bit of a mini-review on my part. ]

Had a LG GSA-H44N installed as a second burner in my system.
I now have at least 75% of the time, as soon as the burner begins to write, my whole system reboots.

I have sent it back to the workshop twice and they claim the burner is not faulty.
It has crashed using Nero 6 and CloneDVD and on both CDs and DVDs.

I would send it back again, but every time its gone for two weeks.

When the system crashes like that, it does not leave a log file behind to look at.

On the good side when it works, it's quiet and burns error free at 16x.

Any ideas?

Did you check for any installed copy protection or root-kit?

Sorry, please explain.
Burner crashes often when I insert a blank dvd or cd.

I just read up a bit on root-kit.
Could have a bit of work ahead of me, but the symtoms don't seem to fit what a root-kit malware may get up to.

Thanks, I will keep checking it out.

Could be a driver conflict. Do you have any Elby or VSO software on your system?

Thankyou for your reply.
No VSO, but I do run CloneDVD2 from Elby as one of my main burning programs.
Should I try and unistall CloneDVD2 or would that not be enough?

Verbatim +R 16x (MCC 004 00), CMC made, printable, as sold by Verbatim
GSA H44N, FW: RB01, External case USB2 with Prolific 3507 (on Intels ICHR4)
Burn speed 16x P-CAV, slowed to 12x

Burst speed is only 23MB/s which ist just not enough to maintain 16x speed. It wouldn't matter if LG would use a plain 16x CAV writing strategy but it hurts them to use a 16x P-CAV strategy and not realizing a higher burst speed over the interface (or LGs still not working only in UDMA4?). Luckily writing quality seems not affected by the multiple burn-proof instances in the 16x-CLV-area.

Writing, Burst, Sum1 scans done in a PX-760:

Hey everybody I do have a question about my LG.
I have an LG GSA-H44LK with Light Scribe. The problem I'm having is when I'm trying to use the LightScribe feature. When I finish creating a label using Nero 7 and attempt to print it, it gives me an error and kicks me out. I've downloaded the latest version of Nero and it still does it.

Here's the error:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimre Library

Runtime Error

Program: Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Nero Cover Designer\CoverDes.exe

This application requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application support for more information.

I was just wondering if anyone of you have seen this problem and know how to fix it. All the other operations of the DVD player work great. Would just like lightscribe to work since this one of the reasons why I got it from Newegg.

Either your batch of Ritek F16 is not that good or the drive generally doesn't like those media. I'd recommend you stick with Yuden T03. The H44 really likes Yuden T03.

Welcome to CDFReaks.

RB01 is the most recent version. So you're up to date.

Just got the H44L from Newegg, with firmware SB00

Sony branded Yuden000 T02 +R 8x rated @ 8x
Sony branded MKM001 +R DL 2.4x rated @ 4x

Does anyone know of a way to keep the DVD-ROM bitsetting on this drive? (i.e. have it not go back to +R and +R DL booktype when restarting)
