Ive lurked around the forums a bit so hopefully providing the above information from Disc Info will make life easyer for everyone.
Ive read the FAQ but tbh a lot of the information is above my head. Im just sitting struggling with a drive that will read CDs happily but doesnt seem to read DVDs at all.
When i try to access the drive it seems to spin for a bit then (assuming windows doesnt crash) it shows me a blank window

As far as i can tell
a) im running the latest firmware
b) there isnt anything physically wrong with the drive - nothing obvious anyway.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I once had this problem with an LG combo drive. The DVD laser stopped working and I had to replace the drive.

The problem is this could be caused by some software/driver interfering with the ability of your writer. The best way to figure out if it is that or the drive at fault is to connect the drive to another system and test it there. If it can read/write DVDs on that other system, it's a software issue. If it can't, then I'm afraid you might have joseph5's problem.

DVD writers use separate lasers for DVD and CD reading/writing so it is possible for one to fail while the other is still working.
