This is a disc of the same batch as before. PIE and PIF levels are slightly elevated, especially at the start, but it is still a good burn, absolutely nothing to complain about.
Probably 12x is the better choice (as 4x or 8x won't help, and I can't go above 16x with USB 2.0).

Interesting. I had nothing but problems with my LP20 together with various USB/IDE adapters (including one with Jmicron chipset). Perhaps the later firmware version 2.00 fixed that - I've never tried again since.

Edit: I doubt your drive reached 16x at all with that disc

What exactly was the trouble like?
There must be a reason why the new firmware was called 2.00 and not 1.01…

It certainly didn't reach 16x, but it probably was written faster from the start. Let's burn another disc to see whether 12x consistently yields lower PIE/PIF than 16x.

Disc recognition, erratic behaviour, depending on the USB/IDE bridge used.

Agreed. My drive had 1.0x aboard when I bought it.

What software are you using to burn? In case of Imgburn, you can load the stored write curves with Burnplot. This tool is available on ImgBurn download website.

Re: LG GH22N/L Results & Discussion

Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL (MKM 003, Made in Singapore)
LG GH22NP20 firmware 2.00 @ JMicron PATA-USB controller
Burned with Disk Utility on a 13" Mid 2010 MacBook Pro
Write speed 8x

(OK. It seems to run fairly smooth, although it did have trouble recognising a few discs at the start. This does often to me when an LG burner is put into service, I assume it needs to re-align its optical pickup head or something like that. Didn't use ImgBurn as these discs were all burned under Mac OS X.)
