First I have updated to http://www.lge.co.kr/library/opendat...E-8320B104.zip Just 1.04 firmware of same model, so I wanted something more from it. So i started looking for testd overclocks but found nothing interesting, then I decided to try flash it with LG GCE-8400B (40x12x40) (p-cav) firmware http://www.lge.co.kr/library/opendat...E-8400B101.zip Because of flashing utility Je4.exe for LG GCE-8400B don't wanted to flash it, so I have used Je3.exe (come from 8320B firmware) and with je4lg401.hex firmware file, flashing was sucessful. First i checked it at bios, it was like real 40x , great , so then time for WinXP, system detected it correctly LG GCE-8400B , then checked info at CloneCD, Nero, Nero CD Speed, it was detected exactly like I dreamed. First I have checked for reading errors/speed, no errors and all read test was 100% good, time for burn something, i don't had any 40x supported blank CD so i was unable to do 40x tests , today is sunday and no shops close to me, so decided to burn on my current blank CD's that support only 24x, however i noticed a that it burned at p-cav mode, so seems like it works as it should, will do 40x tests tomorrow, however seems now that it will work without difference to original 40x , started thinking now how many burners can be upgraded by new model firmware. LiteOn was no exeption !! |

| come on, somebody should test this! :P But I don't want to mess it up if it doesnt work.. ![]() Cuz I just a few week ago bought a LG 32x burner and it should be cool if it could flash it to 40x ![]() But how much can this f*ck your burner? I mean, if something goes wrong, what can i do? And can i flash from WinXP directly with these flash programs, or do i need to go into dos and do it? |

| Yes, I just confirmed it, it worked here too! The drive works great, it's a pity I don't have any 40x media... (Actually, I don't even have 32x media in my country, I always burn 32x on 24x Prodiscs/Princos.) But it's burning @ P-CAV, 32x on my main media and 24x on my old Ritek 16x media that was C2-full when I had the old firmware and now burns fine! (A few hours later...) Something really odd just happened! I was burning @ 40x on 16x SKC media on Nero CD-Speed, and the speed went way past 42x, then suddenly fell down to 32x!! I got a 32.41x average burn speed anyway... If anyone wants a screenshot on CD-speed on this media, just PM me. (This forum has PM, doesn't it?) |

| Excellent work there, I'm gonna give this a try in the morning, but there is 1 thing that is bugging me.. The 40x models should (http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index...&page=Features) have Mt.Rainier support, but only in the models that have a 2mb buffer. Since the 8320 has a 8mb buffer do we have any idea if it'll support this? Not even sure what s/w you can use to support Mt.Rainier but it's a point to look into |

| Could someone tell me all the steps, about how to flash the firmware? 1. Flash from XP or from a bootable floppy? 2. Do i need to restart after flashing with the first (Je3lg409.hex) before continueing with (JE4LG401.HEX)? 3. Do i need to specify the port? (master, slave, sec. master, sec. slave) 4. If something goes wrong how can i fix it? 5. If I notice any problems after I've flashed the drive, can I "go back" ex. by flashing with the real LG 32x firmware, so it will be a normal 32x burner again? Thanks to thoes who might answer these questions |

| Think I've only got a partial success here. The drive seems 100% more picky about CD media now. The discs I am currently using are White Label and rated at 2x-32x, yet the with the drive as a 40x it refuses to burn over 24x in Nero CD speed. While with it as a 32x it starts at 24x and picks up to 32x in the last 20mins or so of the disc So it would seem that with the media I use, I'm better off with it as a 32x drive (I've tried the Hide Media option of Clone, but this makes no difference BTW) Oh, and for Mr.Shadow 1. I done it from a '98 bootable floppy with the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat deleted so you get a clean OS 2. I went straight for the 40x Firmware. There seems very little point in writing the 32x updated firmware, as it gets deleted when you re-flash 3. Nope, it *should* detect it 4. Use the flash program specifying the master/slave port its plugged in on, I've heard that can bring a dead drive back to life 5. Dunno, I think I'm just about to find this 1 out *edit* Yes you can, but you've got to use the j34 program and the je3 (83220) hex Last edited by Down&Out; 04-06-2002 at 14:07. |

| Right, reflashed it back, and it's all back to normal. Average speed on the White Label discs is now 26.01x with 32x being reached at about 41mins. Is there a way to get these LG drives to ignore CDR media?? Cos I'd really like a free upgrade hehe |

| Hmm, maybe I phrased that slightly badly. Basically, I know that this media works OK at 32x, I'm guessing that they just don't like P-cav. So I'm looking for a way to override the settings that say "just burn at 24x" I know the Lite-On guys can do it, but is there a software solution that lets you write faster than their suggested speed? |

| Just 'flash' your LG GCE-8240B with the firmware from the GCE-8320B (version 1.04) . That's my first guess, I've done the same with my GCE-8320B (with the firmware from the GCE-8400B). Note that i'm not 100% sure, because I don't own a GCE-8240B! |

| Can anyone test their 32x overclocked to 40x, then burn @ 40x? Then, use Nero CDSpeed->Extra->Scan Disc or CD Quality->Run a test (surface scan) and see if it returns any error. In the original 40x, I think it has built in quality check as it burns. Look @ the review from CDRLabs, in one of the tests, Ian chose 40x to burn on a bad CMC disc, like in 40 minutes, there was a dip in speed.

| has anyone got their 24x Lg cd-rw to 32x? I was looking around for all the firmware that I need to update mine but I cant find anything on LG's website. where can i find a download list for firmware. |

| I succesfully recorded a CD, an Imation certified 32X at 40X However I did use only 373MB of it, yet no errors were made by the burner. Everything ran just fine!! email me to betrayerzero@netscape.net for an Image of CD SPEED SCAN.

| OK, it is possible that the 40x firmware isn't tweaked yet or the firmware didn't store much information about the ATIP of CD media. Is it possible to use Nero to create a 700mb full data CD using Disc@Once? Also, let me know the exact time needed to burn.

| @Pezz500, Maninabox: It's definitely impossible to flash 16->24 or 24-> 32 because the 24 uses an Oak chipset while the 16, 32 and 40 use a Mediatek one. 16 - > 32 is also definitely impossible because the chipset on the 16 is capable of max 20x writing. |
