It also doesn't write at 16x using PCAV. Didn't we already discuss about this drive ? =))

Yes and I also noted it doesn't have P-CAV 16x. Downgraded.

The design seems unchanged from the earlier generations of LG Super Multi DVD drives.

The button looks different. I love the nice round button on the GSA-4163b, it feels great.

Today I gave my 1620pro to a friend like a gift.
My 4163B suits me better.
And I too believe that must have RAM, otherwise I am not interested.
Mine also has that round button and as grey as it is, it looks a lot nicer.

I'm still waiting for a drive to combine DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD-RAM and Lightscribe.
That will be my next drive.

I own a LG GSA-4166B and it supports ALL current DVD formats including those listed above. I am using Win XP Pro, Nero 7 Ultra Edition and an Nvidia based MOBO. The Drive was detected as UATA 66 (UDMA Mode 4) and both Windows and Nero 7 picked it up right away. The dirve is fast and quiet but the drive is not as eye pleasing as earlier LG models and the activity LED is to bright. The LED drowns out all of the other LEDs in my system. This is in the new generation of LG drives that are made in Korea and I think that the new 'plain' faces are a cost saving measure in this competetive price market. The only media that I have not been able to try is DVD-R DL, I just cannot find any -R DLs in my area. Lighrscribe works as it should and I didn't even need to install the included lightscribe engine, Nero 7 just detected the lightscribe drive and loaded the engine from the Nero 7 CD or from the Nero web site. I am not sure which because I had activity from both when the drive was first detected by Nero. Nero 6 Ultra Edition also supports lightscribe as a plug-in but I have been told that the user has to supply the Lightscribe engine for it to work. I have not been to confirm or deny this though. Have had no coasters yet after about 100 different burns of various media brands and job typs, so far so good.

GSA-4166B has LS and costs less than HP LS drives in some places, but since LS is so slow and expensive... 4167B will have a bigger share.

Yes, with LS is LG more expensive, like Benq in the past.

4166: 78,43 €
4167: 41,52

But Liteon is not much more expensive

1635: 45,89
16H5S: 54,24

I think the GSA is a good burner, I did not make enough to give a more detailed result. The onlybad point is that it will not work with the Panasonic DVD RAM Driver. The drive itself supports DVD RAM. Tis problem is discussed in an other thread a few days ago...

If I'm right there will be an updated version of this drive on the market too. With DVD-RAM support and 8x DVD+R DL writing. The rest is the same, no P-CAV writing

That is correct, but the GSA 4166 and GSA 2266 will *NOT* work with the BHA Corp DVD RAM driver.
