(perhaps capped?) On CD extraction they are equal, burning seems equal....... what's weird about this is that, you know when a dvd extraction begins, after a couple of seconds you can hear the drive speed up (i do on my other systems) well on the LG you never hear that and it stays at about 2X-3X. But when extracting a CD or during a burn, you DO hear the speed up on the LG |

| Matsushita laptop drives are typically GARBAGE with just about everything. I believe DrageMester has one, and says the only MID it burns well is YUDEN000 T03... Most other drives, including the LG, can give half decent burns on even 2nd tier media [like CMC Magnetics, Ritek, etc.]. Many Matshita drives give coasters. [Meaning people have discs that can't even be detected after being written]. Matshita/Panasonic laptop drives also have a high failure rate, from searching around Google. Just a warning.

| i have been unable to find any info on how to speed up this drive when scanning DVDs, anyone have any ideas? |

| It doesn't seem there's a way [yet]. Maybe if you ask for a little help from Ala42 in the Media Code Speed Edit thread, he would be happy to help you sort out your speed problems.

| Hi, i am doing some research on the lg drive cause i want to replace my old crappy matshita uj-840 on my vaio laptop. I am thinking if it is compatible with my laptop as matters the position of the eide connector and if it is possible to put on it the front bezel of my old dvd drive ( it has some clips so i can put it out)... |

It's the caddy that can change where it finally ends up. I just replaced my matshita uj-840 with the T20L (the lightscribe version of this model) in my Dell i9400. Just took unscrewed the caddy of the old drive and put it on the new drive. Now I have the fastest all media laptop burner out there with auto bit setting. Has been working fine and having 6x DL burning will be a bonus over the 840's 2.4x The only issue I can forsee is the region code locking. I don't watch DVD'd on my laptop, so no biggy fo rme but might be for others. BTW the T20L comes in the GSA-E50L external drive. I bought it to grab the DVD burner and then put the Matsushita back in the external box. A friend now has this and hes also happy. Last edited by mobilenvidia; 22-01-2008 at 04:57. |

| Hi, everybody, This is my first post here. I got GSA-T20N drive with my new Fujitsu LifeBook laptop. The previous one (Fujitsu LB also) was equipped with NEC ND 6500A drive, which seemed to be solid and reliable, but was sometimes unpredictable while burning DVD+R DL media. I hoped that GSA-T20N drive would be better than NEC, but faced the greater problems. I tried Verbatim and Ritek DVD-+R DL media to burn, and failed totally. This drive stops burning them at the layer break point (~50% progress), so you can throw the disc away. NEC did the job in all cases, but there were errors sometimes while arranging playback on computer or separate DVD player. Changing firmware version to WP03 gave no result. And, as noted here, the verifying and ripping of DVD discs is a way slower on GSA in comparison to NEC. Can anybody explain me what to do to make this drive work with DL media in a proper way? My OS is Win XP SP2, and I tried both DVD-R/DVD+R DL media. Software I use is ImgBurn and Elby CloneDVD. |

| I've burned quite a few +R DL discs with no problems on the T20L (only difference Lightscribe) I'm using Imation 2.4x Media |

| Has any1 tried this firmware: http://club.cdfreaks.com/2019160-post45.html I could not upgrade from WP03, since the flasher did not find the drive.

| Right, it's same by me. Device not recognised. Maybe some stupid joke .... Forget it. BTW: If I have a Toshiba notebook, does it matter on Firmware version (specially made for Toshiba) or can I use ANY version ? I've had a TSST-L632D before (RMA) chabged for GSA-T20N and on L632D were different firmwares for ASUS, for DELL, Toshiba, .... |

| Hi, Quote:
Hopefully, the flashers will check if the firmware fits and will refuse to work if not. If the flasher does not do this check, then flashing the wrong firmware might kill your drive. The most important issue is, that the master/slave/cable select settings are in the firmware since slim drives are jumperless. And notebook manufacturers have different ideas about how to connect a drive, so you can have two different firmwares for the same drive. 50% chance to kill the unit. Michael |

| Judging by MCSE thread, some folks successfully repfashed GSA-T20N with the patched WP03. Those that did that, would you kindly tell on top of which FW you reflashed, and what was the master/slave behavior before and after reflash? Thanks in advance. |

| I got this in my laptop (branded HL-DT-ST instead of LG), firmware WT03. Curiosly Toshiba lists another drive for my system and insists I should update my "TS-L632" to TO02. This notebook business is complicated.

| I have Toshiba A200 notebook. There was TSST-L632D DVD-drive, but because of fault and complications my drive was changed for LG GSA-T20N. Now it works without any problems, even on original firmware. So, I am finally happy ... |
