Did you hook up all the cables? Set them to master/slave? Check UDMA in Device Manager?

And how are they set up?

Are they both on the same IDE cable?
- Yes? Have you set one as master, one as slave?
- No? Have you set them as master/slave opposite to the other device on the IDE cable?
Do they both have power plugged in?

Have you detected them in the computer bios?

You will need to pull them back out, and make sure that one has the jumper set to master, and the other has the jumper set to slave.

It is recommended that the drive at the end of the IDE cable is set to Master.

I haven't found any recent optical drives that DON'T have it either etched into the metal case of the drive, or at least on a sticker on the drive which jumper position is master/slave.
