I got a Big Problem here.

I bought a Notebook. HP Pavilion zd8155ea
There is an DVD Burner in it:
LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N
I dont know the Firmware or anything else.

I have a problem. Always when i Burn me a DVD Video the Video plays exactly to 40 Minutes. Then the Video stopps.
i tried several DVD-R`s
i tried several Burn Programms like Nero / Alcohol 120%
i tried several burnspeeds 2x 4x 8x
i tried ISO Files / IMG Files / the Video_ts folder

but nothing happened.
The Video always stopps at 40 Minutes.
the pricutre stands and that was it.

Is there anything i could do o that i can Burn my Movies with 8x and then they will play to the end of the movie. Not only the first 40 Minutes.

Please help me out.

Upgrade firmware to 0S35 or 0N37 from http://tdb.rpc1.org and don't use cheap disks.

This burner is much better with DVD+R and gives great results with Verbatim (MCC) and Taiyo Yuden disks, however it hates Ritek G04 (what are fairly unstable quality anyways) while G05 is acceptable.

ohh i see.

but this is not my burner i think??

Please tell me what files i have to download.
I dont want to bust my dvd burner.

You need firmware for LG HL-DT-ST GSA-4080N (GWA/GMA/GCA) either 0S35 or 0N37, this will make your unit DVD-RAM GMA-4080N (0S35 - Sony OEM, 0N37 - NEC OEM with marginally better -R burning).

If you want to stay on the safe side use http://tdb.rpc1.org/original/4080NC12.ZIP (Original 0C12) and your device will stay GCA (Compaq OEM) and RPC2.

Firmware upgrade will give you some headway, but the key is not using crappy disks.

I have the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA-4080N (0A31) and doesn't seem to support bitsetting. Does the firmwares from rpc1.org have bitsetting enabled for this writer? I am thinking that this writer can't set booktype.

no, also the firmware on rpc1 for that drive is unmodified , if its really important to you then youll have to buy an external drive or a regular drive+external enclosure that supports it , thats correct it doesnt support bitsetting

Hello legweb215 and welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure if you want region free firmware or just firmware updates for your drive. If it is region free firmware, then TDB are about your only hope. If they don't have firmware updates for your drive model, then you probably have to ask them for one.
