I have this DVD-ROM drive, LG (HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B) with firmware version 0015.
I have been unable to find a newer firmware anywhere. I have seen
posts from other owners with firmware 0017 and 0020.

The problem I'm trying to fix is it's inability to read DVD+R DL. If memomory serves me correctly my old lite-on 166s had a firmware update to fix this problem.

This is a new drive that I would like to keep but if it's not possible to upgrade the firmware to fix it then it will go in the dumpster.

Then you have an OEM drive, not the one required for this update!
