Here ya go. Sorry, only .exe files. I wouldn't know any dos firmware flashtool (you actually need an .exe file somehow to flash a .bin anyway) for it.

Would not work because it's no Liteon drive.

The Dangerous Brothers explained it on rpc1.org forum.

it works burning DVD-R if you make a flash firmware

upgrade ...go to ... http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GWA4040N and

download and install 1.02 (ARIMA) Windows driver upgrade

...it will work for DVD-R with 4x ....with Nero Burning

soft ver 7

I was wondering if someone could reupload the firmware that is downloaded from "http://tdb.rpc1.org/#GWA4040N" to a file hosting site, or sent to my email please? That website is not working. I have an LG GWA-4040N with an emachines notebook. My burner does not want to burn blanks nor read newly burnt discs anymore.

Thank You!

Welcome to cdfreaks
If your drive worked well before with the same disks a firmware update will not fix the drive.

actually it does not want to burn anymore nor does it want to read some/most discs..I remembered I did a firmware update, but I must have installed the wrong one..

maybe I did a wrong firmware update, I'm trying to go back to the original one, but I don't know where to find.

I have the same problem, I assume that the drive is dead. Got a replacement drive (samsung SN-S082H) and with that I cannot even boot. go figure ...

What is nd-6750? Assuming it is a DVD burner I don't think I can use it since Compaq suggests the Teac DV-W28E (part # 379579-001. I assume any part I get must be compatible for when I use the recovery discs.

Plus that link went to an expired commission junction link.

The nd-6750a is a good solid drive that will work well in your laptop. The link to ebay was not mine, just like the one in this post is put in by the forum bot. Search ebay for the "nd-6500a" I am sure you will find some.

I guess I'm confused. Doesn't the drive have to be compatible with the drivers supplied on the recovering disc(s)?
thanks.

At the risk of sounding doubtful, the guy at the computer store said I would have issues which made sense to me since the recovery discs contain drivers for the entire laptop.
So if I may ask, are you positive?

Drivers are not needed, as all drives use the same protocol. The only thing that matters is if your IDE DVD drive has to be master or slave. That depends on your laptop.

Well all I have to say is the guy at the store does not know what he is talking about. Your ODD (optical disk drive) driver is installed with any Operating system there are no secret drivers on a magic disk for them, at least for a IDE drive. The recovery disks for your laptop have audio and video drivers that are for your models system, maybe that is what he was talking about. I am only try to suggest a good drive at a good price.

ala42 his drive is master on the r3000 series compaqs. the nd-6750a comes this way.

Mine is an r3000 series as well so I'll take your word for it. THanks very much. Wish me luck!

Do you have a manual for it, you can change the drive yourself
Here is a link for the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00212209.pdf

yes I do. Came in handy when I had to change the fan. But thanks, that was thoughtful.

I assume this is an NEC drive? I'm slightly concerned about outside 'casing' of the drive (ie won't match).

Yes it is a nec drive, and no the bezel it comes with will not match but will fit. This drive is way better and cheaper than a compaq replacement.

I assume any of these will suffice even if a different brand is mentioned?
