LG Writer Discuss, GSA-4120B vs. GSA-4160B at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; Do you think it is worth extra cost to choose 4160B over 4120B? The difference is mainly the addition of 16x DVD+R writing for 4160B where 4120B had only 12x DVD+R.

The 4160 is a waste of time IMO.

Agreed, especially the lack of 4x DL burning support, and the 8x speed limit for DVD-R media are disappointing. The GSA-4120B will only burn DVD+R media a little bit slower, since the GSA-4160B uses Z-CLV mode for 16x burning as well.

The question is about spending extra money on 4160. In what sense could it be a waste of time? Keep in mind that GSA-4160B is still THE drive with the best features in the world, better than ND-3500A or DVR-A08.

The question doesn't apply to those who plans to "upgrade" from 4120 to 4160. The only good upgrade from a reliable 12x to 16x DVD burner, I think, is a Blu-ray or HD-DVD writer.

What money? Are you saying GSA-4160B is trash?
