Hardware problem: GH22NS30 Disappears from windows

LG Writer Discuss, GH22NS30 Disappears from windows at CD and DVD Writers forum; My LG DVD Writer has been disappearing from windows lately and its getting a bit annoying It freezes the system for 2-3secs while it goes, throws an error into the Event Log (already cleared it today, will post it when it happens again). My LG DVD Writer has been disappearing from windows lately and its getting a bit annoying

It freezes the system for 2-3secs while it goes, throws an error into the Event Log (already cleared it today, will post it when it happens again).

I have done the MS filter registry editing - its quite annoying that that's all that they suggest in my opinion

Have swapped ports on mobo, swapped cable

Any other suggestions??

I haven't checked for a firmware update yet

Specs:
Windows XP SP3
Intel E7300, Gigabyte EP45-DS4P, 2gb ddr2-800, Antec Earthwatt 500w
