GH22LP20 won't read its own burns

Hi
I am having some issues with this GH22LP20. First what it will do.
It will read and write CDs no problem. It will read DVDs from machines or movies. It will burn DVDs which can be read in other machines or DVD players
So the drive works fine well almost.
It will not read DVDs it has burned. XP will not show a directory of these disks blank or burned. Clicking on properties shows 0 used and 0 free.
Windows does recognize the drive correctly HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20

I have attached part of the Nero Info file which might help someone who can read these things. If I have cut out part that you need to see let me know I just figured it was abit long.

Well this makes no sense but I have the DVD drive working properly I think.
I had try adding a old CD burner back in as a slave which didn't help. Then I thought I would try switching them and low and behold with the Cd burner as master and the DVD burner as slave it works. I have no understanding of why.

well it worked for a few minutes ..now back to the same old problem...

any ideas????

Having the same problem only I can't read any home-burned media. All other CDs and DVDs work fine. Has anyone found a solution?
