Hi everyone: I am new to the forum and hope that someone out there can help. you are my last hope. I had an lg dvd burner which I decided to replace because it was gettting old and took forever to recognize a dvd. Also, the burn quality was deteriorating. I bought a new lg GSA-H55L Super Multi dvd drive. I installed it, making it the master on the secondary ide. There is also a cd burner on the secondary ide which I made slave. I booted up and the new dvd drive was nowhere to be seen in My Computer. I checked the bios and the bios couldn't detect it either. I then removed the new dvd burner and reinstalled the old one. It was immediately recongnized. I thought I had a defective burner so I brought it back to place of purchase and got another one, same make and model. I installed it and same problem, not recognized. Now I knew it wasn't a defective burner the first time. I decided to try switching the cd burner and dvd burner around, making the cd burner master and dvd burner slave on the secondary ide. All of the sudden both drives were recognized. It wasn't the configuration that I preferred but I decided that I would live with it. I don't run my computer 24/7 as some people do, I turn it off when not using it. The next day when I turned it on, again the dvd burner was gone. I contacted lg and they told me to update my bios, which I did, but it didn't solve the problem. So now I have a brand new dvd burner which I can't use because the computer won't recognize it, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. Somebody please help. I am running windows xp sp2, mobo is asus k8v-x se, cpu is amd athlon 64 2800 1.8 ghz. Thank you |
