Here is a YUDEN000 T03 at 12x.

Bought 2x50 cake packs from rima...

Although this is a good burn I am not impressed with this media.

It's apparently an improvement with firmware version A106 for this drive. (Agent009's AN16 is actually the same thing as A106.) It's not a well known fact of this drive though.

RITEKG05 actually does burn nicely on the 4163B. It's just that nobody knows how long those discs will last so I wouldn't go putting anything valuable on those discs, if I were you.

Yeah I have burned a few and set them aside, I will be re-scanning them every month to see how well they are holding up.

Memorex DVD+R 1-8x CMC MAG E01 @ 8x (in 10' 18")
Transfer Rate Test

MDA DVD+R 4x SONY D01 @ 4x (in 14' 38") (there was a visible scratch at outer side of the ring, abt 5 cm)
Transfer Rate Test

Nope. My 8x burns on my 4163B take about 8min. 10min means that the writer probably burned the discs at 6x. Check your DMA settings (should be UDMA2 for this drive) and if those are ok, try other discs and see how things go. Memorex is really not very good quality media.

here are some burns with MCSE v1.0.8.14 "increase read speed" patched A106 firmware.

Philips DVD+R 8x CMC MAG E01 @ 8x (in 10' 18")
LG GSA-4163B Transfer Rate Test
Philips SPD2400 Transfer Rate Test

Verbatim DVD+R 8x MCC 003 @ 8x (in 7' 58")
LG GSA-4163B Transfer Rate Test
Philips SPD2400 Transfer Rate Test

MDA DVD+R 4x SONY D01 @ 4x (in 14' 43")
LG GSA-4163B Transfer Rate Test
Philips SDP2400 Transfer Rate Test

there were problems with Transfer Rate at the beginnig but it becomes ok by burning more and more discs. Although Verbatim's pie sum is very high, pif graph is nearly excellent, that's my new record, 100- pif sum and < 8 min. burning time!!

@ karangguni

thanks for the answer!! UDMA 2 is available and set for 4163B. perhaps the dirve writes at 6x but showing that it writes at 8x. maybe you are right for the media (i.e Verbatim's burn).
