| Hi Everyone. I am in the process of ripping a large quantity of dvd discs (1200 or so)to hard drive for my imerge media server. It works with the raw data files (vob/vts/ifo) and not with disc images. I have no need to compress or burn to disc afterwards and so I decided to use anydvd and it's rip to hard drive function. What confuses me is that on the slysoft website there is a suggestion that there are two other methods that should be used in preference which involve clone dvd and the anydvd rip function should be used as a last resort. I have to say there is some functionality missing from anydvd in this regard like the lack of option to define a default directory to rip to, a speed indicator like used to be on dvd decrypter and the option to set different ways of labelling output folders. My questions then are should I be using some additional software for the ripping process and just leave anydvd to work in the background or am I using the wrong software entirely and is there anyway to improve the functionality of anydvd in its own right?? |

| I remember reading that CloneDVD in combination with AnyDVD will rip faster than using only AnyDVD video to hard disk function. It was said that they do not want to make AnyDVD superior to CloneDVD at backing up DVDs because that is supposed to be CloneDVDs specialty. *I cannot remember where I read this so I cannot say if it was said by someone who actually speaks for the company or not. If you have that many discs to backup you should probably give CloneDVD with AnyDVD a try to save some time. |
| Some apps. will increase your rip speed a little but it depends on the drive you are using for ripping also if your DVD's are not copy protected you do not need AnyDVD. DVDClone is for burning and AnyDVD is for copy protection and ripping. I have a Samsung 222F with a speed read patch it can rip a full S/L non copy protected disc to HDD in 4 minutes with DVDDecrypter which is free. Drives with no riplock are just a little slower with stock firmware. An 8gig copy protected D/L disc can be ripped in 10-15 minutes again depending on Drive/Firmware.
