Howdy,

Ive recently been having some problems when trying to burn using the MDS file rather than the ISO.. I blew through 3 Verabtim +R DL's using the MDS until I tried the ISO by itself (moved the mds file to another directory) - and it burned fine.

Happened again to me tonight (differen ISO) - but only wasted 1 DL..

Im using Anydvd 6.0.6.1 and dvddecrypter to make the ISO/MDS files..

I turn off anydvd to do the burn.

I suspicious of anydvd in this instance as ive only recently updated it and burned many DL's using MDS without problems.

Here is the log - note this failed 3 times on me (3 different discs) when I used the MDS file (For a DVD9), and burned perfectly when I used the ISO only:

The following log shows a sucessful burn of a DVD5 MDS and a failed DVD9 MDS (which burned fine with the ISO only):

I also updated to IMGBURN 2.1.0.0 which exhibited the same problems with the same MDS & ISO file (I didnt keep the log of that one tho)

Any ideas/happened to anyone else? - I posted on the imgburn support forums too but theres no definitive answer for whats happening..

Cheers,
Bitey

As long as you are running a NTFS file system you do not have to burn via the MDS file. Burn via the Iso. ImgBurn will do the layer break for ya if need be. The MDS file was created for those who run Fat32.

I agree no need for the MDS file.

No. Your problem is during writing, not reading. AnyDVD has nothing to do with writing. Just a coincidence.

If you write ISOs the layer break is not in the same spot.
You could try CloneCD instead using DVDDecrypter.

Tru,

I know the problem is in writing (I quit anydvd to do the writing/verify) - im thinking anydvd is somehow ruining the MDS file when its being created (with dvd decrypter). I picked the same layerbreak in Imgburn (at the time of burning) as in the MDS..

Lightning UK suggested just using the ISO so long as the layerbreak is the same as in the MDS when burnign with imgburn..

So I think ive got a solution - not an answer as to why

Re: Clonedvd: Does it make ISO's and MDS's (or its equivilent) to preserve the layerbreak?

It doesn't make MDS but an equivalent to preserve the layer break, yes.

Mr Bitey –

If you are overly concerned about the Layer Break use AnyDVD in conjunction with CloneCD and burn to quality DL Media (Verbatim). Using AnyDVD/CloneCD combination the original Layer break is preserved.

Are you certain you are using the AnyDVD-DVD Decrypter combination correctly?

Use DVD Decrypter in conjunction with AnyDVD and rip the original Commercial DVD Movie Title to your Hard Drive in the ISO READ mode. It is important to have DVD Decrypter configured correctly if using in conjunction with AnyDVD. Suggest viewing the below CD Freaks Forum posting concerning how to properly configure DVD Decrypter to work properly in conjunction with AnyDVD. Refer to posting comments #5 and #8.

BeLooken,

Dvd D is setup as per the article.. Ive only noticed this problem using version 6.0.6.1.. and only on some dvd-9's... which is all very bizzare. Still working the issue over on Imgburn support..

Mr Bitey -

Maybe the recently released AnyDVD version 6.0.6.3 might produce better results for you.
