@doc I am not trying to be mean and also the 200+ poster isn't a newb and didn't have any posted problems at this time and the above comments were not directed towards him/her rather my comments were to new posters who suddenly show up here with these new, weird , and unreproducible problems the moment there is a new update and then don''t listen to advise and never post their system specs, etc to begin with. it's like going to the dentist with vague mouth pain and leaving the office with no teeth, because the customer would not explain the problem correctly and the doc would have to try everything until there was nothing left to try doc btw you're not a dentist are you?

)> Good going and good post!!, glad the Verbatims worked well for you. They are premium classed (MCC-004 media ID http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm). And if you live in the U.S., you can get a 100 inkjet printable 16X Verbs for about $40 bucks at most Sam's Clubs. Also, + media would be your best bet because you could change the booktype on them to DVD-Rom to ensure better compatibilty with some stand-alone DVD players.

I have recently been having problems as well. The system tells me there is a new version available. Norton tells me not to let AnyDVD access the net. I have let it. The system crashes. Programs will not open, especially Norton. I run checks with another ad ware program that obviously opens, and find ad ware galore... Imagine what happens when I update the program. Whats the deal? The system is frozen fight now. I have fixed it each and everytime. Today, it won't fix. I am running the latest version of AnyDVD. I uodated this morning. I cannot imagine where I am picking up the ad ware. Norton is always on. It has to be the AnyDVD downloads. Has anyone else had this problem? No ad ware is being located right now, and the sytem will not open all programs, and it is dragging. Ideas?

i don't know where you're getting the adware either, but it's definitely not anydvd otherwise we'd all be in the same boat. from what i hear norton isn't that great and it does weird things to a lot of peoples systems. does norton scan for adware as well as viruses? I didn't know it did both... |

@ rick790, Welcome to the Forum. None of SlySoft (http://www.slysoft.com) or Elaborate Bytes (http://www.elby.de) software programs contains any AdWare. Perchance where do you obtain this AdWare ridden copy of AnyDVD? The one and only place to obtain the AnyDVD software is from the Official SlySoft site (http://www.slysoft.com). Suggest visiting the SpyBot Search & Destroy site (http://www.spybot.info) and obtain the latest version of this excellent software program and run SpyBot Search & Destroy program to remove SpyWare/Adware from your system. It has been discussed on numerous occasions in both the CD Freaks AnyDVD and CD Freaks CloneDVD Forums that Norton Anti-Virus is very invasive, interferes with the proper operation of AnyDVD- CloneDVD, and is not a very effective Anti-Virus program. This fact has been demonstrated because with Norton Anti-Virus other software programs you tried have detected “ad ware galore” on your computer. Suggest trying either Kaspersky or Avast, Anti-Virus programs. Best Regards, bjkg

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Appreciate that. Norton does find ad ware, but will tell you that it cannot remove it. Therefore, I used SpyBot S & D. Didn't know if I could use the Brand name on here....<Like I didn't say Norton before.> Spy Bot catches them all and removes them all. I go to the site, and boom, there they are again. I trust what you say that it is not the AnyDVD site. The system usually works perfectly once the ad ware is removed. This time, it won't. No, I do not have any P2P programs due to this problem. Don't want the "free" ad ware. I will look into the programs you guys suggested. Thanks for the advise!

I'm not sure what os your using but if your using XP you could try running spybot s&d and adaware then go into system tools and turn off system restore and reboot. If your problems are gone then turn system restore back on for a clean restore point. This has worked for me in the past.

| I don't know guys> Norton has been 100% full-proof for my system. Not one thing has gotten by it, even detects and destroys trojans that certain websites tries to auto-load onto your PC. And if you are naive to think that some sites on the web doesn't try to auto-load trojans onto your system, you're in for a rude awakening. Hopefully not before it is too late!

I'm quite well aware of the kinds of nastiness out there trying to get on your system. Anyone who thinks a firewall and AV are good enough these days are fooling themselves big time. However, I still maintain that Norton and McAfee both suck. In all the tests I've seen they are in the 70% range for catching things. Now, NOTHING is ever going to be 100%, but, I think I want something a little closer. I use three different antispyware programs on my machine. Unlike AV they don't conflict. My system gets scanned for viruses and spyware every night before the defrag takes place. My laptop is quite well protected, but, even that's not enough these days. I ended up putting a javascript blocking addon in firefox a few days ago so I can control what sites load javascript. In any case, it pays to be careful. Once infected, it's damn near impossible to fully clean your system. If you don't believe me, search the web for a neat article about the microsoft exec who's friend asked him to get some spyware off his machine...in the end, after even the MS engineers couldn't do it, they wiped the machine.

I guess this is still a little off topic but i do agree with SamuriHL. I have had bad experiences with both Norton and McAfee. For the last couple of years I've used AVG+Firewall and have been very pleased. My system also sits behind a router and an access point. But like whats been said you can't have enough protection and you have to use it. I have friends who download all the latest spyware and adware detection and then run it once a year. Thats just not good enough. If your going to have a decent system take care of it and watch where you travel on the net and don't download a bunch of useless crap that you may look at once. You don't know what comes with it.

I realize this is off topic but it does concern us all. Spyware can slow a system down and destabilize it causing seriously screwed up burns. Here's the article I was referring to if anyone's interested in an interesting read. http://australianit.news.com.au/arti...nbv%5E,00.html If the guys that built it are having a tough time, that doesn't bode well for the rest of us.
