For MadBob re: AnyDVD & CloneDVD
| AnyDVD Discuss, For MadBob re: AnyDVD & CloneDVD at Movie copy software forum; I read your guide for using AnyDVD with CloneDVD , but I do have one question. My system currently has a DVD burner and a CD ROM. Do I need to replace the CD ROM with a DVD ROM in order to use this combination of software? __________________ Dalton |

| no, just use your writer to read AND write the dvds

| As posted above you can use your Writer as a reader, although I wouldn't recommend it, why wear out the expensive Writer when you can get DVD readers like the JLMS (LiteOn) very cheap, also there will be some movies that don't like being read in your writer so it is always advisable to have another choice to read from, I have two DVD readers and try to never use my Writer as a reader. |
| Thanks for your advice....bought a Starlogic Platinum 16x reader from circuit city. Backed up Proof of Life with dvdxcopy xpress....piece of cake and darned good quality as well. Total time: 40 minutes with the HP 300i

| That's precisely what I plan to do tonight...thanks to trial software. Buying all software should be like this....try before you buy. On the other hand, judging from what I've read in the forums, it may be worthwhile to keep more than one ripping and burning product on hand. I'll let you know how things turn out tonight. Once again, thank you.

| My, my, my.....bought Xcopy Xpress the same day that I bought my ne Plexy 8x DVD burner.....both bad and good news. Xpress burns bought all dvds are coasters...went back to anydvd/ clonedvd combo....and all is well. DVDs play fine on my Panasonic RP 56, quality is superb....hate I wasted money on Xpress.

| If you get coasters you should also consider slowing the burning speed down a bit, and looking at the Finalizing thread as there is a new DLL that could get round that problem. |
| As far as I can tell there is no way to adjust burning speed in Xpress, unless you know something that I don't. I've scoured the xpress forums and it seems that many Plexy owners are suffering my same fate. At this point I'm very content with the anydvd/ clonedvd results but it would be nice to garner something from xpress.

The firmware of your burner determines the maximum speed allowed for the media being used. You can change the burn speed in CloneDVD, but it will not burn any faster then what your firmware permits for that specific media. I would suggest at first staying at 4X to prevent errors. Later you experiment and increase. By all means keep your firmware updated to the latest version because of the ever changing types and speeds of media coming out. See below of where you change speed when you reach that stage of the copying process. |
| HELLO that option is for drag and drop on cd burnung not dvd burnung |

| OMG, you guys gotta be kidding me..... Starting with cadreamin and the rest, did you guys notice that this thread was started in 2003 and the last post on it was well over 2 years ago? lol |
| I started reading and couldn't remember posting an answer which threw my for a bit until I spotted the dates |
| Uh, yeah, sure... I've been waiting patiently for 2 years to continue this conversation. |

Sure as heck fooled me, didn't even look at the date. Cadreamin you must be bored for weeding through two year old posts, either that or you enjoy reading history. |
