Anyone here familiar with both '1 Click DVD Copy Pro' and 'Clone DVD2'? I'm currently a contented user of the basic '1 Click DVD Copy' and 'AnyDVD'. But I'm considering an upgrade of '1 Click'. For maximum ease of use combined with control of what (extras, etc.) gets copied, should I choose '1 Click DVD Copy Pro' or 'Clone DVD2'? I'm impressed by the claim of the latter: 'Our unique Filmstrip assistant will guide you step-by-step through all settings - easy for beginners'! Someone gave me Nero 6.x but it just didn't seem to allow me sufficient control plus a final disc that would run on stand-alone DVD-players. Thanks - Ken41

| Really in the wrong section but I would choose Clonedvd.

Both come with trial bases download both and use them and make judgment for yourself which one best suit your taste.
1-click has product activation and is bound to a single CPU. Don't buy it.
Thanks guys for your thoughts. The trialing of both products may not work as I think I downloaded both of them previously for one specific problem (not a general test or comparison). I take the point about picture quality being better from '1 Click'. But ease of use, particularly re selecting specific episodes or 'extras' off a disc, is also my concern. - Ken52
As No. 1 Ganster has directed you to place that this issue with the same title has been discussted in detail why don't you take his advise and look into that link he has provided you?.
I did indeed go where No. 1 Gangster directed me, and learned several things. I'm now tossing up between 'DVD Shrink' and 'Clone DVD2'. The former is FREE but the latter does a very neat job. If I can get on top of 'DVD Shrink', it may do me nicely! - Ken52
Hi Ken If you were to compare shrink with clonedvd2 then shrink will win regarding picture quality, clonedvd2 will be alot faster than shrink but like I said shrink will give a better result. What you should do is use shrink and clonedvd2 to compare them. Dont forget that you get a 21 free day trial for clonedvd2 PRESS ME use both progs and see what is better suited to you.
Hi Ken52...Greetings...About an hour ago I tryed to make a copy of James Stewarts Film "Bend of the River"....Well this dvd had very bad scratches ,and even with anyDVD ripper I couldnt get it to my hard drive...I also use cloneDVD2..and shrink...I tryed other decryters...but to no joy from any of them....So , last of all used 1 click DVD copy Pro......It never missed a beat, made a great copy...I am well pleased...All I can say is It worked where the rest failed.....
Thanks guys. I'm currently settling for 'DVD Shrink'. But I'll keep the commercial products in mind. Don't forget I already have the basic '1 Click DVD Copy' and 'AnyDVD'. Ray Henry, hope you enjoy BEND OF THE RIVER made by that great director of men-in-landscapes, Anthony Mann! - Ken52
Ken52 I just noticed you live in Aussie....Iam living in Queensland,at Burleigh Heads...My family and I....Cheers mate.
Hi Ray Henry, mate, up there in Queensland! Yes, I've elected to use 'DVD Shrink' for when I want to backup particular items from a disc, other than the main movie. I have customised myself a still, a .png file in place of Shrink's own default still, to use when replacing unwanted tracks from a disc. It points the user to use the DVD Menu button on his/her remote. (The default still, rather unhelpfully, simply reads, 'The video has been removed'.) I created the text in Word, copied it to Paint, saved it as a .png (Popular Network Graphics) image, did some final polishing in IrfanView (made the text white-on-black), and saved it to the folder where Shrink already had the default .png still stored. (Note. I indented and centered the text of the still. Otherwise, I found, when my DVD-player adapts to a widescreen/letterbox format movie, the text of the still bleeds off the edges of the image.) - Ken52
I use one click DVD Copy (not pro) and CloneDVD2. I use AnyDVD with both. I'm new to this, so my comments are of limited value. CloneDVD2, in general gives you much more info about what you about to do, in terms of quality and compression. It does not seem to allow you to select between single and dual layer when writing. One Click DVD Copy does. One click also allows a simplified selection of what will be copied. CloneDVD2 gives you more control over the exact files to be copied or disallowed. And it does display bitrate when transcoding a DVD. However, One Click will burn dual layer DVD's, something that CloneDVD2 does not. Or if it does, I haven't found the control allowing it. Compression does matter. When I first started, I didn't realize it had any effect. I thought that if I'm taking the contents of one DVD and moving them to another, it should remain quality neutral. Neither degrading or improving the display quality. But I was wrong. I am still hunting for a guide to why and when of compression to quality of DVD copying. But I can see the difference between a compressed (40%) DVD copy and a uncompressed DVD copy done on dual layer media. I don't know if the difference from the original DVD and the uncompressed DVD are noticable, but I will be looking at it in the future. If I had to puchase one of the two programs, seeing AndDVD is required for either when copying, I'd go with CloneDVD2. But if getting the best copy available, including using dual layer media, then One Click DVD Copy would take the lead. I expect the pro version has more features than the basic copy of One Click, so it might equal the CloneDVD2 at this point in terms of more information and control prior to committing to copy. If it does, then it may be a good or as good a selection. That's my take on the two pieces of software. Anyone have a pointer or FAQ/Tutorial on the why and wherefores of compressing when copying DVDs? HalfCent
| CloneDVD can do either Dual or Single Layer, what do you mean can't switch?

@ HalfCent, Welcome to the Forum. Suggest reviewing the CloneDVD User Manual and/or the AnyDVD- CloneDVD User Guide Tutorial (http://forum.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?threadid=72022) for information on the use of the CloneDVD software program. Most certainly the CloneDVD software program can Write (Burn) to either DVD-5 single layer blank DVD Media or DVD-9 dual layer blank DVD Media. This option is controlled on the CloneDVD “Title Configuration” page. Best Regards, bjkg

Now, I'm going to guess that the size adjustment mentioned in the tutorial page is where I can select dual layer or not? The DVD-R DL selection? Not that is said diddley squat about "Dual Layer" there .. just "custom size". Since I am not an intuitive/psychic techie at this point, I was looking for something that actually said Dual Layer and/or that pointed out how this feature was accessed. Much like I was hoping to find an explanation of bitrate and compression from purchased DVD's to duped DVD's effected display. Which is why I looked at using the dual layer in the first place. Does an Uncompressed image (done on dual layer media) display *better* than the one from the original DVD? I am surmising that the original is on a single layer from the manufacturer, not a dual layer. Am I mistaken and are most DVD movie releases produced on dual layer for consumers now? I am looking for the best reasonable display on an wide screen HDtv using a good upscaling DVD player. I just wasted two dual layer disk's trying to dupe a movie uncompressed with One Click. Both had errors that stopped the process while writing. I will try a couple more disks with CloneDVD2 now I think I know how to set it to dual layer media when I write. (Yes, I have the tutorial page open again and am perusing it, almost as I write this!) And thanks to all for pointing out the error of my ways. ![]() HalfCent Yes, I really like Lightscribe Technology .. wish they had dual layer LS media |

Webslinger, thank you for the info. I am surprised that they are spending the money on dual layer DVD's for mass production. But that is fine by me. I just thought the bean counters had a tighter grip on them than that. So if the movies are coming out on dual layer media, just why isn't there more demand for dual layer media? I hit the local shops and there will be scads and scads of DVD media and maybe a couple of selections for Dual Layer (DL) media. Yes, I know it must cost more to make, but usually that is a matter of scale. If they make a lot, the cost goes down. If most movies are DL to start with, I would think that many of the DVD buying public would be grabbing the DL media off the shelf. But perhaps they don't care about display or are just unawared of display contraints? Anyway, I'm very curious why you say don't use CLoneDVD2 but rather CloneCD. Can you give me a bit of the why that is? CloneCD makes better DVD's than CloneDVD2 ... ? I have been using various media, though I have read that many/most people recommend Verbatim media. I started with HP DVD media for use with Lightscribe (LS) technology and am now trying Philips LS media (all single layer). I have also used Memorex dual layer, but am currently using Philips there as well. I will give the Verbatim a try next. HalfCent "Dang, that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang flick was pretty darn good!"
Webslinger, sorry about that, I should have said, where may I find more out about the "layer break" thing, or would you be willing to expound on that? Thanks! HalfCent "Just how many samuai flicks do you have to watch before they start making sense?"
Okay, I successfully did the dual layer thing with CloneDVD2. Thank you all for informing me that it would do dual layers. I had failed twice on this movie with One Click, but CDVD2 did a fine job without a hitch. Now if I could only find LightScribe media in Dual Layer, I'd be the head happy camper! HalfCent Just how long before they decide that there is no such thing as an end of copyright? The public domain will exist for items produced prior to the twentieth century, is my guess.

Clonedvd2 does not retain the original layer break position. As such you may encounter a pause during playback at the layer change--at a place where you do not expect or want the pause to occur. Also, I should have mentioned in the post I linked to that even if you do use Verbatim +R DL media with Clonedvd2, you may still encounter skipping at the layer break. Again, if you will strictly be using +R DL media ("When Dual layer DVDs are copied to DVD+R DL media, the layer break position of the destination disc will be exactly at the same location as the source disc; this does not work with DVD-R DL media, because DVD-R DL media has a fixed layer break position"--from Clonecd's history log) I would use Clonecd instead of Clonedvd2. |
