Urgent Help Required For Pioneer A07 Dvd Writer - Complete Novice

hi everyone - i think i have stumbled on a godsend - please let it be true

i am a complete novie

i just bought a pioneer dvd writer A07, my pc already had a cd rw and dvd rom drive.

my frined installed the pioneer drive, keeping my other drive. he said when i got home windows should automatically recognise it.

well it doesnt recognise either drive

when i log into windows a message appears saying new hardware found - the older cd rw drive and asks me to install the software - i dont have any

how do i get my pc to recognise both drives - i am sure it is all set up properly

i want to start burning dvds asap

well hope you guys can help - thanks for being patient

windows should recognize your burner without installing any software at all, check if the drives are correctly set to master and slave

Try going into device manager and uninstalling secondary ide channel.( assuming you have the hard drive on primary and the dvdrw on secondary. Most people do) . Then reboot and windows should auto detect the drive correctly. I know it sounds strange to uninstall the secondary channel, but you will not do any harm as it is reinstalled automatically when windows reboots.
post here if you solve it or have any further problems

Have a look at this post to see how to get to device manager for each windows os.
The post is about enabling DMA mode, but tells you how to get to device manager and shows the secondary ide channel in the xp picture.
R click on secondary ide channel and choose uninstall, confirm and reboot.
