So Pioneer's finally been corrupted by the cut every corner to save a penny, Lite-On business model?

Might be a good idea to start snatching up the NEC Pioneers. You can pretty much count on them going the way of Nexperia BenQs (i.e. becoming legendary and difficult to find).

Geez people, Pioneer has used MediaTek chipsets before under the disguise of Asus' clones before Asus started using LO as OEMs. Why is everything that seems to have a MTK chipset a "corruption?" Stop being so negative and understand the nature of the business. No one is forcing you to buy it, get over it.

Same here. Eject hole and LED are in the same place of a LiteON drive.

I agree. Samsung also uses MediaTek chipsets, and they have produced some of the best drives in the business. The issue is not so much the chipset, but firmware. If Pioneer can put their engineers to work on making the best firmware, then these drives may surpass previous models. Let's wait and see.

The R18 is the first Pioneer DVR to be designed and manufactured in partnership with QSI.

According to the sticker on the drive the digital and analog audio-out ports are physically there but not in use?

I've seen similar limits earlier. PX-760 only provides digital-out but not analog. But now we get IDE drives with no audio-out at all? It was one of the reasons to still buy IDE drives (SATA variants never had any audio out) but now even that choice is gone?

Are you referring to a bad experience you have had with a LiteOn, because I get very good CD-R results with some of my LiteOn's.
