I will keep my eye on this as well! 20x wasn't half bad. The 7240s had a slightly better MKM 001 burn imo. Is this the same batch you used for your optiarc test?

Yes, MKM 001s for 7240S and DVR-117D were from the same spindle of 20.

Thanks, James. It's nice to see that the AD-7240 and DVR-117 give us two great options for burns. Thanks again for all the tips/hints!

Nice 24x and I'm glad to see it can do a nice 8x -R burn.

Excellent question. I can't say with certainty yet, but I've been thinking about it and plan to do some comparisons this weekend, making burns on the 116 and 117 with the same image as well as media from the same spindle. I'll post results as i have them.

Due to the variability between media, burns, etc., I decided to do the following for comparison purposes. For a given media from the same spindle, I made three burns with the same image file on my Pioneer DVR-116DBK and 117DBK. Since I'm also interested in how they compare to the Optiarc AD-7200 and 7240, I did the same for those drives as well. I started with Verbatim DVD-R (16x) MCC03RG20 media, but even with just that media it took a lot of runs and scans. I have all of the scans, but am not sure if everyone wants to see all of them, only the 116 and 117 scans, or something else. I did summarize the results in a spreadsheet, which I'm attaching. Feedback encouraged on whether this is useful, if you want to see some or all of the plots (in this thread or another), and for other media that I have access to.

Very nice, jadburner!

I believe the 117 can become as good as the 116 is, but the 116 is the champ actually.

I'm assuming this was really at 20x, as the drive is a max 20x drive? Don't forget that ImgBurn may let you choose the speed, but that's not necessarily the speed you'll get; rather, you'll get what the drive supports and decides to write at [whenever you select an unsupported speed].

Thanks for the question. I specified 16x as the write speed in ImgBurn, which all drives supported for the MCC03RG20 media. All four drives came very close to that near the end of the burn. I had done a couple 20x and a 24x burns previously with the 117D, but now I'm wondering if that drive actually reached that speed.

I'll have an updated spreadsheet in a few hours, with TDK DVD+R 16x (CMC-MAG-M01-00) media.

Scanned on Plextor PX-850A

I also hope a 20x burner can burn disc at 24x speed.

Sorry, Albert. I misunderstood your note when I replied previously. Although I specified 24x for that burn in ImgBurn, I don't believe it reached above 20x. So you're right that it was essentially a 20x burn.
