Asus / Pioneer Writer Discuss, Pioneer DVR-111D/111/A11XL Scans Thread at CD and DVD Writers forum; Welcome and thanx for sharing! Your sony is a rebadged Liteon 1693, which traditionally is a good reliable scanner. Hence second graph looks more like it I suppose u can reflash it and get all the Litey goodies Cheers

I bought some Maxell branded Ricoh JPN R03's this weekend on sale.
I cannot believe how much better they burn than the Memorex branded JPN R03's.
Burned @ 8X DVR-111D, F/W 8.25
PIE: Avg-1.13 Max-8 Total-20,076
PIF: Avg-0.01 Max-2 Total-972
It actually burned a lot better, totals-wise, @ 8X than @ 6X

hello, I just bought my Pioneer DVR-111D yesterday and I tested it today with Verbatim DVD-R MCC03 under Nero Cd Dvd Speed.

I think it's quite good

Let's take a look at the attachment

Anyway I don't have any other dvd drive in order to test these discs I burnt with my 111D. My 109D @ 1.58 burns but quality test shows 0 or 30.... 109D is probably dead.

Yesterday my PIO got some special work to do. One of my last beloved Maxell branded Yuden 000T01. In my opinion maybe the best media ever made. Look at the jitter in the BenQ scan.

Burned at 4x with 1.23

Both models have a riplock. Max. speed for DVD-Video ripping is 11x. If this is not fast enough for you, you can get rid of that with the help of MediacodeSpeededit.

Who has expected that??

Yes, Pios are unreliable scanners.

A perfect burner and good scanner for his own burns. But he treats burns of other burners not always fair. I notice that sometimes (not always) with Pioneer burns too, cause I have two good scanning devices. If your main interest is qualityscans I would prefer a LiteOn.

@ evilrulez:

I recently replaced my 1650 with a 165P6S, and I'm pretty happy. It rips a bit better than the BenQ, and it's a decent DL burner in its own right (which my BenQ really wasn't). The Litey also has a large modding/drive-torturing community that makes owning one a lot of fun.

Nero quality scans on the Lite-on don't look quite as nice as with the BenQ--I went from 98-99% QS on SL media to 95 or 98% for stuff burned with my Pio.

Back on topic: I've noticed that newer MKM-001 seems to burn better on my 111D@111L when I switch the write strategy to MKM-003. PIEs look a little worse, but total PIFs look a little better. Here's a "normal" MKM-001@MKM-001 burned at 4x. PIF total looks a bit much for a small DL burn.

The DVR-111D replaced the DW-1650 as my main burner. I think it does a better job on both SL and DL +R media. Total PIFs on this look really nice.

Fuji-branded T02 burned at 8x with ImgBurn v2
111D @ 111L

B-E-A-utiful!
I thought Benq is a quick enough ripper. How fast your Liteon rips pressed SL/DL discs?

I've only seen the Litey hit 11.x when ripping pressed DL media, so it's definitely slower than my Benq. But it also chugs along without slowing down on some discs that bring the BenQ to its knees. I'm happy with it.

Is the PIONEER 111 "King of the DL Burners"? I think so. Here's a 4X Burn on White Printable MKM001.
IMGBurn
Burn Time- 25m.30s.
Interesting how the PIE's go way down on the second layer. On most burner/media combinations the second layer is usually worse.

Hmm, the 111 drives really seem to burn TYG02 exceptionally well. Check this result here.

I had burns like that with my Pio, but only until I used up all the jewel-case MKM-001 I was hoarding. On newly purchased discs (spindles) I get the traditional pretty L0, ugly L1.

Here's my first burn with the new 1.29 firmware for the 111D. The disc is from a problematic spindle that gave me horrible PIFs at the layer break. The PIFs look great even for a 2.4x burn. Up until the layer break there were only 97 PIFs reported.

Pio DVR-111D fw 1.29
Burned w/ ImgBurn v2 @ 2.4x
