Sorry, I have no time to do more scans for each test. I will only do more scans if I suspect the test result is unreliable.

Thanks for the tests, I'll follow this thread, hopefully the model arrives soon to west, although a new version is due next month in Japan, I think it has new tech to read scratched discs...

Is there any truth to this? Newegg has the 2208 instock, tempted to pull the trigger unless there will be a model revision. thanks

Yes, I did a quick google and found the report where I read it.
It's the BDR-S08J, just the typical small revisions (refurbished plate, etc) that the pioneer models always bring along. But it came to my attention a small spec difference, it comes with the new technology PureRead3+ that improves readability of scratched surfaces. Besides that I can't spot any difference other than the price... (292$),
I think that's a bit too much for my budget, so I personally will pull the trigger with the newegg one, I just would like to know if there's any difference between the 2208 and the already known 208XJ

edit1: Here's another link. It seems to be more geared for "archival"...
edit2: The BDR-208JBK also comes with the PureRead3+ feature, but no price is announced yet.

Too bad I can't buy from Europe : (
8 years waiting for this moment.
If I'm not wrong the 2208 is just like the 2207, the american version of the 208MBK, which is just the average model right below the S08XJ or the Japanese 208JBK. I'm not sure if I'd have PSU problems...

My drive arrived today from Newegg. First burn:

BDR-2206 (listed in Nero as BDR-208M)
Smartblu (TDK MID) 4X at 10X

More will follow

I will try to post the pictures as soon as I can, for some reason, I am getting "unable to copy /move files" error...both png files well within requirements...

OK...so now I can insert some photos. This is Verbatim 6X BDR burned at 12X. If this is any indication of the quality of this drive...I will pack it up and send it back. Was going to go and get some Sony BDR, but all I could find was made in Taiwan, which I am told is Ritek. Horrible burn

Hang in there. Some troubles that they're working hard on resolving with the forum servers.

Try a 6x burn before you pitch the drive. Give it another chance or two to get it's footing .

The Sony Taiwan NN3's are likely a bit better than the Verbs. But you do need to be sure that you are getting 6x NN3's in the spindle you purchase.

Last question of the night. Why doesn't any software recognize 15X burning speed. Imgburn burned Sony BDR at 15X, but everything else recognizes what the chart above says...top speed of 0.4x...what is that?

Gonna call Pioneer in the morning. When this drive DOES burn at 15x, it is super loud! Odd, I wonder if running the drives in AHCI mode (because of SSD's), if that effects the drives failure to write at full speed. Once they hit 10X the curve spirals downward...except when writing with Imgbun...but then look at the results...Can my Windows 7 install be messing this up. Running Intel AHCI drivers 11.6
