I updated my BDR-207EBK (BDR-207M) to firmware 1.21 without any issues whatsoever. I highly doubt your new drive is the problem, particularly as your 206 also behaves like this.

What software are you using?
What MID are you trying to burn?
Check that the BD Defect Management option is still disabled.

Edit: Never mind, I see that you've solved the problem ... what was the issue?
Made in China, didn't come with anything but the drive. No software or anything. The "issue" was the streaming option in Opti Drive Control and CD Speed (thanks jamescooley1).

That's unbelievable!

A 'premium model' and they don't even supply a software disc with it (just as bare as the BDR-207EBK)!

Glad to see Jim helped you get it sorted. Stick with ImgBurn . There is one MIT BD-R you might want to try feeding to that beast. INFOMER30's.

Honestly, I expected much better from Made in Japan TDK burned at its rated speed.

25-disc spindle. I got them off Flea-Bay pretty cheap. I think it's been so long since I saw the box they came in, I forgot what speed they are (no label on the cakebox itself).

OK. I never got really excellent scans with my 6x TDK either. But on the bright side, a magazine that put together the results of independent professional BD-R testing ranked them one of the best in longevity.

It's too bad we can't get cheap MIJ Panasonic BD-R like they can in Japan, which is odd because optical media is usually more expensive there.

I've upgraded to the offical Firmware: 1.21 on my 207EBK and I see that the BD-ROM ripping speeds are low (8.5MBs), how to you bump it up (I've used MCSE in the past but I don't think it support this drive).
