| Hello.I am new to this site and i need some help. I bought a pioneer dvr 216 (that's the name in the box and behind the "machine")> I Don't know if it is a 216d or something else.The dvr workrked great until i updated it's firmware (i do not remember what version) with the new one (v 1.9). From then i always have a problem. I can't write properly dual layer dvd. All programms (Nero, Imgburn, clonecd) sto at 50%. I think it is something about the new firmware. I might have installed a wrong firmware for a different version of pioneer 216 or there is something wrong with this vresion of firmware and dual layer writting. I usually use verbatim and tdk dual layer discs. All others dvd (dvd+ or - r and dvd rw are written properly). I tried to downgrade the firmware to v. 1.6 with dvrflash bu i couldn't!i read almost any faq about this program but i couldn't use it properly. (excuce me for my english!) |

| I thing that i know what tou mean about the sis chipset. I always have big or small problems with sata dvd roms with this computer (they tend to write too slow or have problems like the one i mentioned in this forum). I tried to alter raid to ide through bios but then the p.c doesn't recognize the dvd at all!!! I think i will change the dvd with an ide one (and more importantly i will buy a new p.c because this is very old.). Thank you very much for your help! i am gratefull!!  |

| Yeah, SiS and VIA are problematic. I would also suggest avoiding NVIDIA, since some of their chipsets tend to cause problems with optical drives. Depending on CPU choice, Intel chipset with ICH7, ICH8, ICH9 or ICH10 or AMD chipset with SB710 or SB750 are your best bet. Lots of people here with tell you to go Intel (with best intentions, of course), but I haven't had problems with recent AMD chipsets either, so it's really a matter of personal preference.
