Will future releases include support for the older Pio drives 101-108?

In practice it does not really make sense, as the -R9 table has only one entry and the +R9 table already supports 8x writing for both MKM media, which seem to be the only media which can support 8x speed with good quality. In case you want to make swapping tests on +R9 media, first try it with the current renaming mechanism. If the results are ok, I can send you a firmware using the lossless mechanism to check that the results are the same.
not a problem. i had noticed that there was only one entry in the -R9 table. i have the 110 drive in my g5 running OS X so i don't have easy access to anything except for burning on it. i also couldn't easily find any verbatim media in my area when i needed them last week (i am going to make sure and get verbatim from now on) so i got some fuji media (actually ritek media code). the only reason i wanted to try any of this was to see if the fuji/ritek media would burn at something other than 2.4x. i transfered my firmware over to a windows box, used a sony dvd dual layer drive to read the media code (using dvd identifier) and overwrote one of the empty media codes (sony i think) with the ritek info, then i switched the ritek media code to use the MKM 8x info. then i transfered the adjusted firmware over to my mac and flashed it. every program i tried refused to see the disc as anything other than 2.4x, maybe all the programs i tried ignore the drive and only use the info on the disc itself. so, unless you have some idea of something i might have done wronte i think that i will just stick to unmodified firmware and make sure to get verbatim media from now on.

thanks.

Pio 101??
The S201 is no normal DVD burner "For General Use", it is an Authoring Burner.

I will probably add 108 and 107, if it is more or less identical.

The problem jordan.breeding described was solved after renaming his RITEK media code to RITEK___, the media is detected as 8x media now. Like with the MKM_____ media codes, the firmware seems to need a underline character in the media table when a binary 0x00 is in the media code name.

Is there any chance for edit CD-R media, because Verbatim CD-R 52x only can burn at 32x speed not 40x on DVR-110

btw: very useful program, thanks a lot

Oops sorry, correction: not Verbatim CD-R. It's Philips CD-R 52x

I have no plans for adding CD support and I assume that the burn time difference between 32x and 40x burns is quite low.

Just to let you know (if you don'tknow already) FW versions 1.39 for both 110/110D have been released.

You should be able to find them on the Japan website.

haven't had much luck with this on a 109 (fw 1.58) or a 110 (fw 1.39), can someone advise on what I am doing wrong ?

I'm using RITEKG04 disks -

1. run mcse 1083
2. load firmware R9143109.158
3. double click 'dvr-r ritekg04 4x' and select 'dvd-r fujifilm03 8x,6x,4x'
4. replace the strategy, save firmware, flash to drive with dvrflash 2.2
5. reboot

however, both dvd decrypter and recordnow still only allow 1x, 2x, or 4x buring on this type of disk ?

cheers!

G04 is 4x rated media!!!

Why do you insist burning them at higher speeds?

no reason other than mucking about with mcse to see what it is capable of, these G04 just happen to be the disks I just have to hand at the moment.

I have about 500 green bulkpaq disks left over from ages ago, they are rated 2x but they used to burn ok on my 107 at 6x with >nils nx4all firmware.

on the 110 (official firmware) they only show up as 1x. I can't get mcse to change the write strategy for these either -

** INFO : Disc = [DVD-R:PRODISCG02]
** INFO : Reference Speed : 1x DVD = 1385 kBps

cheers!

ok I'll give up experimenting and flash it back to the official firmware, I wrongly assumed that I could use mcse to trick the drive into buring these 1x prodiscs at a higher speed

cheers!

4x -R media is locked at this speed, check post #9 or the changelog entry for the initial pioneer release.

@ala42
Is it possible to change the speed without swaping the write strategy ???
for example: just add check 12x or 16x on MCSE box

Sorry for my poor English

No. The drive needs a write strategy descriptor to burn at a given speed, so it has to be taken from an available strategy.

Probably. The speed table locator needs some adjustments, the other stuff looks as usual. Do you volunteer for an alpha test ?

It is still on my todo list, but not on top priority.
