    MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Pioneer DVD-Writers

MediaCodeSpeedEdit allows you to get even more out of your Pioneer burner by applying changes to the official firmware. MediaCodeSpeedEdit also supports models of other manufacturers, see the main MCSE discussion thread for details.

Key features of the Pioneer support:
1/ Support for PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109/110x/111x/112x/115x/212x/215x/K05/K15/K17 DVD writer.
2/ Support for official firmware files and unofficial patched firmware files.
3/ Increasing the DVD write speed by lossless write strategy swapping.

    Burning results:
Changing Pioneer DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

    Usage firmware modification:

1/ Download the firmware you want to modify.
    2/ Start MCSE.
3/ Load the firmware normal file file, e.g. RB100111.122 for the 110D 1.22 firmware.
4/ To increase the write speed, double click the media code you want to change and select the write strategy you want to use instead. This is a bit of trial and error. Check the Changing Pioneer DVD±R write strategies (results thread) to see if your modification has been tried before.
5/ To apply the RPC1 patch, select the RPC1 checkbox.
6/ To apply the Bitset patch, select the enable bitsetting checkbox.
7/ To apply the read speed patch, select the increase readspeed checkbox.
8/ Save the firmware. When using the Pioneer flasher the file name may not be changed.
9/ Flash the modified firmware. The Pioneer flasher does not allow to downgrade or even to flash the same firmware release again. DVRFlash does not have this silly restriction. The flashers used in the TDB Pioneer RPC1 patches also do not have these restrictions.
    10/ Reboot.

    Usage Flasher modification:

MCSE can remove the flasher restriction described above for 112x/115x/212x/215x/K17 flasher
1/ Download the flasher you want to modify.
    2/ Start MCSE.
3/ Load the flasher .exe file, e.g. UPR12.exe for the DVR-112_FW122EU flasher.
4/ Select the allow same to same flashing checkbox.
    5/ Save the modified flasher.

    Known restrictions:
    - Strategy swapping for RW and DL media is not recommended.
    - Changing (disabling) of write speeds is currently not implemented.

To speed up the release of the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 support, I am looking for additional beta testers.

For completeness, here is also the changelog of the initial Pioneer release.
    Code:
    Changelog
    1.0.7.1 24 Oct 2005
            - enabled the PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 1.58 support

    1.0.7.0 23 Oct 2005
            - added support for Pioneer 109/110 family drives
Special thanks to >NIL: and TDB, also to the brave alpha testers
PumaUK, agent009 for testing the patches.

              Current version supports:
                PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D1.22
                PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D8.22
other 109/110 firmwares are supported read only until tester
              have checked them.
+R, +R9 and -R9 strategy swapping is lossless, so the source
media code is still available after swapping.
-R, -RW and +RW strategy swapping renames the source media code,
so it is not available anymore.
4x -R media seems to be locked at that speed.

Can you add support to 8.57 firmware? I have a dvr-109 available to test. I'm getting great results with +r media, but need bitsetting support.

Yes, he retired, and Pioneer did not reinvent the wheel for the 109/110 firmwares.

    @ala42:

This is a nice piece of work. Just out of interest, is it possible to provide support for the DVR-108 or Piodata 108DX?

    ...otherwise...

    @anyone else:

By analogy with the NEC 2500 -> 2510, is it possible to flash the 108 with 109 f/w?

The only thing I currently know about the 108 firmwares is that they have been patched.

These drives use chipsets with different CPU cores. Usually a next generation chipset is bad enough to prevent crossflashing, but an incompatible cpu means no chance.

OK many thanks for your replies. I was looking for a way to burn RICOHJPNR01 at 8x and still retain booktyping to DVD-ROM.

    Cheers...

Here are the Pioneer related changes:
    Code:
    Changelog
    1.0.7.2 03 Nov 2005
            - added lossless -R strategy swapping for Pioneer 109/110 firmwares
Thanks to PumaUK for the tests.
            - added support for PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-109 8.57
Thanks to DVD_PREDATOR for the tests.
            - fixed problem with MCC 004 MID in PIONEER firmwares. This MID is
referenced twice, by a 16x and 12 strategy. The second one, 12x
strategy was used when swapping to MCC 004. It is ignored now.
Thanks to richman for reporting this problem.

Some Pioneer 107/108 firmwares will probably be supported in the next weeks.

good job matey! Thanks! BTW by lossless -R strategy do you mean that once we switch a MID it isn't lost in use by the actual MID had we put a disc in the drive that contained it?

Yep, you can use the original source MID strategy as often as you want. You can even use it in the original form when it is mapped to something else. Before the source MIDs was just renamed to the target MID, so it could not be used anymore.
