Can anything work for me today.
I have a pioneer dvr-108 "dvd/cd writer" it burns dvd's at 16x and below speeds
I just got it installed, i had a bad cable. I switched cables and now when i use roxio to burn it, it says no supported dvd recorders were fond on your system.
The cd burner in it works, the dvd rom works, cd rom works but the dvd burner won't work. I double clicked the dvd drive and it says no disc is in.

I have tried dvd-r's and dvd+r's, neither work. I have gone to the website but whenever i try to send them my problem it gives me some lame error msg so i cannot even ask them a question. All my firmware is up to date and i cannot find any driver downloads at the website either. For some reason the burner came with NO cd's to giv eme installation software for the dvd burner. I would have assumed i would have been given a cd with drivers and/or some other kind of software. Is this the problem or is ti something else?

ALSO: i have roxio 5 so i dont know if that is a problem but roxio 5 allows me to make dvd data discs and this is what gives me the no detection error.

you shouldn't need any drivers for the 108 dvd burner. need more information from you like what operating system are you using. i would suggest you try using a 80 pin ide cable, make sure you have the jumper set correctly on the 108, try uninstalling ROXIO (sucky software in my opinion) then reinstalling it. NERO BURN has a free trial download that you can tryout.

no clue what a jumper is. I am using windows xp. And i do not own roxio cd, it came with mycomputer.

In the back of the 108 drive there is a jumper setting. Here is a picture to show you what a jumper switch looks like. you remove that little jumper switch and set it on either SECONDARY MASTER or SECONDARY SLAVE depending on how you want the drive set up in your computer. Look in your 108 manual it will show which one is MASTER, SLAVE or CABLE SELECT.

Your problem most probably lies with Roxio, meaning it is a older version and the Pioneer is not added in the list of known drives. You will have to update Roxio to the latest version (if there is one in the 5 series) or upgrade to Roxio 6 series or use another piece of software.

I don't know if the 108 is supported specifically, but it is worth a try.
Personally I have never used Roxio.
I use nero6 for data discs, and clone dvd to write dvd video files
